My father and i found a small bird on the road when driving. Dad took his shirt off and grabbed the bird. We put it in a box in a dark room covered in a blanket but dad seems to think it's going to die of shock. It's just staying still but it's deffinetly alive. Should i ring the wildlife rehabilitators or not? Will it die before they get here or will it be ok?
Please hurry.

Contact the wildlife rehabbers immediately, they have the proper training, liscencing and are the best hope for the bird. They will advise you on the best course of action. Do not try and give it sugar water or any liquid, you are likely going to get some down the trachea causing severe illness/death. In this case the faster it gets to a rehabber the better, the bird is likely in pain, if it can be helped the rehabbers can administer pain killers. Good luck.

Hi :)

Call them but please keep the bird in the dark space so it can calm down a bit, I live in Australia and we have terirble problems with birds being hit by cars. I have a Galah now which i rescued as a baby and i kept her in a box in a dark room for an hour or so and then i put a tiny little bit of water in there in a very shallow dish - Just don't go in and out of the room.

Contact your animal rescue and see what they can do.

good on you for doing such a great thing, Especially your father!!

Keep it warm, in subdued but not pitch black lighting. If you have an animal rehabilitator to call, do so. Don't make sudden movements around the bird, keep it slow and calm. Offer sugared water, if he's better in a few hours you may be able to release him. It's good of you to try to help!

I had a similar thing happen to me. My mom found a black bird on the sidewalk and brought it home, it stayed still and quiet for two days. We kept a heating pad and water in its cage, and kept the lights dimmed. When it finally started moving again we feed it mashed up worms. We kept it for a few weeks and let it go when it grew its feathers.
I think you should keep it for a few hours or over night.(Keep it warm) If it lives call a local shelter and ask them what to do.
Good Luck

Call the wildlife folks. They will tell you what they usually do in this situation.
It's better to try and give him a chance, than just do nothing. After all, if he dies in route, at least you tried.
