If you step son is 15 and is as normal as the boy next door if you don't do something for him this week he will be traumatized for the rest of his life. It should have never been left this long. However if your son is handicapped it may go on for the rest of his life. Is there a chance that your son has ever been sexually abused at any time in his life. Does he ever wet his self. Does he do it all the time and is he constipated when it happens. There are so many questions that I would need to know in order to help you better. Do take him back to the Dr and demand that they find the reason behind it. They may have to run a few test to find it. I live in Canada where all Medicare is free. Do you live somewhere that you do not have this luxury? please do not put a money factor in this. It is so important that you get it taken care of like yesterday. Do Not take NO for an answer. One thing that has been known to work is going to a chiropractor. It may be as simple as that. Good Luck...

Hi I suggest getting a second opinion, I am a teacher in a pre-school and we have had trouble with a little boy for a year and a half because of the same problem.we tried everything from continuously asking him when if he needed to go, to encouraging him to at least go and 'have a try' only to have him poo his pants not long afterwards. the only answer we had for some time was laziness and attention seeking.
only recently he was diagnosed with a condition that makes his bowels remain open. (I cannot remember the name of it sorry) unlike other kids who's bowels are closed and then when they fill they'll get the sensation of needing to go....they go....he didn't. his were always open, so therefore when they filled it just came out. he has no say in the matter. the saddest part is that docs don't know if they can correct this, meaning that he could have this condition as a grown man.
if your stepson is 15, he should be able to discuss with you the sensations he gets or doesn't get.
definitely get a second, or third opinion if needed. 15 year olds want to be popular and cool, not teased for stinking!
good luck to you and your stepson.

There's something the doctors aren't finding.

He needs to see some sort of specialist.

For the counseling take him to a child or adolescent psychologist, specifically. Go see him/her yourself before his first appointment and make sure the whole problem is thoroughly explained. After that he will likely see the doctor alone.

To check out the physical aspect, he should see a proctologist. They specialize in dealing with the rectum, anus, colon, and pelvic floor. If it's a physical problem, it's one of those.

If your insurance requires a referral, his general practitioner should be willing to provide one for both. Demand them. There is something wrong here.

thats a hard one. i would first take him to another doctor, then if hes ok i would ask him son are you so lazy you want go to the bath room? sometimes you have to be direct with them my friend has a 15 year old son that does the same thing,he will be playing video games and insted of stoping going to the bath room he will sit there till he loses the game. i say take the games and dont give em back till they stop this crap.

At this point its his problem and needs to take responsibilitiy for it...
I would start having him see a mental health counselor.
When he poops his pants its his job to clean it up...
That means cleaning himself, its underwear, and where ever else he may have made his mess.

Does somebody else always clean it up? If so STOP and make him do it. If he is the one keeping it clean I'd have to say the same as the rest...maybe he has been abused in the past take him for 2nd opinion.

No this is not normal! Something is wrong. He needs to be evaluated both physically and emotionally (it is probably both) or something is seriously wrong in his environment. ie sexual abuse. Check it out! See a different doctor!
