The smell and taste are incredible!

You get an old beat up percolator, retro, or get a new one at a dollar store, fil it with river or spring water if it's safe, and boil it. Then you put a stone in the pot and add coffee. Place it on the grate on the campfire. It will perk the coffee. The flavor is rustic and you can smell it a mile away. My Dad used to put a few sugar cubed in his shirt pocket so I could have my coffe sweet. You stir with a little stick you find. Let's go to the river, I'm all excited!!

I've never heard of putting a stone in the pot, but I make coffee on the campfire quite frequently and, yes, I love campfire coffee. You are right, there is something incredibly different about coffee that has been made over a fire. Sometimes I just make up a pot of cowboy coffee......quite simple: Just stir a few spoonfuls of ground coffee into a pot of water and place it over the fire until it begins to boil. As soon as it has gently boiled for about a minute, you take it off the fire and set it aside to cool down a bit. After you have set it off the fire, add about a cup of cold water (ice water works well if you have it). The cold water will cause the coffee grounds to sink to the bottom of the pot. Now , just gently pour it into your cup, being careful not to stir up the grounds from the bottom as you pour......
