I have a close guy friend who used to joke around sexually with me a lot, but never asked me out. He's the type that dates a lot of low-quality women, and is afraid of commitment. When I indicated that I'm interested in him, he backed off totally and stopped all joking. Was he interested in me? He never made a move on me but all actions indicate that he was interested. I'm confused... Would appreciate guys' perspectives in particular.

He was interested, but he was afraid of you at the same time. Like you said, he's intinidated with good quality women. Of course he's interested, but he didn't have the courage to act on it, even though you tried to help him out. He's terribly insecure.

Sorry I'm not a guy, but I'm going to try to provide you some perspectives nevertheless.

Since you are his close friend, he cares about you and would not want to hurt you or lead you on. His backing off would be confusing because it could mean either
1) he doesn't want to commit with you so therefore don't want to give you the wrong idea by continuing joking around with you, or
2) your interest in him is a surprise to him, he needs time to adjust and think about it.

I wish I knew the answer too, since I'm in a similar or related situation.

No guys will not always make a move when interested. Females can be scarey. Especially the ones we find most desirable. While most guys would not admit it - running from an attactive gal who is persuing them is not uncommon. Sometimes it is like you said - a self esteem issue. You can't imagine that someone so hot could be interested *you* so...ahhh...runnnn! Sometimes guys grow out of this sometimes not. I've seen gals do the same thing. When the student is ready the teacher will appear.

He backed off because he doesn't want to lose you as a friend. He's a flirt but considers you more than just a "lay". Don't ruin it between you two because he could be the best thing that ever happened to you. There may come a time when he will save your life. That is true friendship. Good Luck to you and him and your relationship.

No, guys won't always make move. Especially if they're close friends with you.

He's either attracted to you and has some self-esteem problems (dating low-quality women, running away when he discovers a woman he actually likes, likes him back) or he's not attracted to you and was just flirting for fun.

NO WAY THAT ISNT TRUE, NOW IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU MY DEAR HAS INTIMIDATED YOUR LIL FRIEND & HE SHUT UP LIKE A CLAM (LOL),IF YOU FELT HE WAS INTERESTED THEN YES!! HE WAS INTERESTED BUT YOU CAUGHT HIM OFF GUARD & THREW HIM A LIL OFF BALNCE, SO RIGHT NOW HIS MIND IS IN OVERDRIVE & HE DOESNT QUITE KNOW WHAT TO DO NOR HOW TO TAKE YOU, HES NOT REALLY SURE (due 2 his smaller than a female brain) if you were serious or playing & he is afraid to ask you b/c in his male mind you might say you were joking & that would leave him feeling embarrassed!!! Honey take this matter into your own hands 7 go get ya' man (smile)..Yes he is interested & a lil shook , but that will pass!! good luck..

He probably has too much respect for you to get involved romantically. Guys with commitment problems usually know this about themselves. He just didn't want to end up ruining a great friendship by making you one of his sexual conquests.
Be happy you can keep him as a friend...you can never have too many of those.

some guys are afraid of loosing some one who love so much.i think he is trying to have you near him & thinks if he opens a G.F relationship with you someday he will loos you. so he preferes to have you as a freind.

some guys will if they are confident in themselves. Some guys are afraid that you will reject them. And we all know that rejection sucks.
