hmmm, it could be a dead tube and may not fixable (or worth the $$ to fix it). BEFORE you call for a repair or chuck it out, call you cable/satellite company (if you are on those systems) to see if it something on their end.

If the purpleish color is on only a part of the screen fading towards the center, then this is usually caused when some strong magnetic object is close to the TV, e.g. a loud-speaker magnet. In order to correct this, remove other equipment/stuff that is close to TV that might have a magnet. However, if the magnetic field was very strong you'll need to DEGAUSS the screen. If the TV is equipped with a degaussing system/button use this.
This could be done externally, but professional help is recommended.

If this the whole screen and not just in one spot. This means
Something wrong with the white balance on your TV, for purpleish means to much Red, in order to adjust this you need to enter to services mode, call someone to help you (authorized services center) usually just need some adjustment

depends how old our tv is
it might be cause the laser that excites the screen to turn certain colors is missfiring so red and blue r mixing constantly
if its not lcd than the lights in your tv need to be changed or our screen is messed up

sounds like you lost your green gun. If your driving it from componant cables, RBG, check the green cable or try a different source into the TV, sync is usually on green in componant, so it probably isn't the cable.

Do you have a magnet sitting on your TV? Speakers have magnets. If so, remove the magnet... It may be a terminal illness... Go buy a sweet LCD, or plasma...
