other than for their own selfish reasons, like they arn't ready to be a parent, they can't financially support a baby, or they don't have the support of the father?
There are people all over the world who want to adopt a newborn. People can say that these people should adopt one of the thousands of children who are already in foster care or orphanages, but the facts are that there are many people who simply want a newborn. If it came down to a choice to abort or give a child up for adoption, why would a woman choose abortion over adoption, unless it is for her own personal benefit?
The child would not be born into poverty: it would have a loving home, with parents who could properly care for it.
If the child had problems: there are advances in the world of medicine everyday. Who is to say that there are not ways to give that child a somewhat normal life?
What would be a valid reason, that is not just for a womans own selfish reasons?

And the arguement that a woman could die in childbirth, is not what I would call valid. I have researched this on-line and the statistics show that the chances of a woman dying from an abortion are much higher than a woman dying from childbirth.
"The unadjusted mortality rate per 100,000
cases was 27 for women who had given birth, 48 for women who had miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies, and 101 for women who had abortions."
That is from one of the many websites dealing with this subject.

Getting beat by a boyfriend???????
There are numerous couples who would allow one of these women to move in with them during the pregnancy and would take care of them.
Maybe that is why these girls need to keep their legs closed.

Pico: Just so you know, one of my close friends was raped when she was only 16, but she didn't want to turn a horrible situation into an even worse situation by aborting that baby. She now has a 12 year old son from that, so don't give me that arguement. Women have done it, and it is completely selfless for them to choose to give that baby life instead of aborting it.
And if you can't handle a pregnancy without thinking about suicide, then maybe you should not be having sex. There is no 100% form of birth control.

there is NEVER A good reason to abort. its all selfish, women claims that its their body and their uterus but what about the babies body, its their body that pays the ultimate price. it used to be that abortions were performed only in the first trimester and as bad as that was it wasn't good enough for the pro choice--they had to go and make it legal for second and third trimesters. even though most pro choice says that they don't agree with second and third trimester abortions but don't they realize that if they were pro life then none of that would have happened? its a very sick world we live in that u can murder your child legally up until the day u go into labor but then they only want to call it murder if u kill it after its born.

My answer to your question is Judge not till you have walked a mile in their shoes.
This is a very personal decision for anyone faced with an unexpected pregnancy. I don't know what prompted your question but obviously you have never personally dealt with this problem. In your opinion it is selfish to abort a child. Just because a women chooses not to sacrifice 9 months of her life to have a child for someone else to adopt does not always mean she is selfish.
There are many reasons that women choose to terminate a pregnancy. You say an adopted child would not be born into poverty, however if a women already living in poverty that already is struggling to support other children may not be able to put her life on hold for 9 months to provide a child for someone else. She still has to put a roof over their heads and food in mouths.
One of the reasons there fewer infants available for adoption in this day and time is that the stigma of unwed pregnancy has been removed by society. Woman now have not only the choice to abort but to keep their babies. After carrying a life inside you for 9 months and giving birth, I can not see how I would ever be able to have given up one of my children.
I assume you have never been faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Pregnancy alone can cause an emotional roller coaster. An unplanned pregnancy can make you feel like the train is out of control and is about to go off the rails.

This is a rather rude question. Why don'y you leave people alone and let them make their own decisions. I personally know that if I get pregnant again I will abort. I have 2 kids already and my body cannot handle going through a 3rd pregnancy. I don't like the idea of adoption. Your reasoning for putting a newborn up is just not logical. If that person would rather leave the sad child in foster care and take a newborn, thats their problem, because I won't give them the chance at a newborn if they are so selfish to have one. Its my body and my choice and I absolutely refuse to carry another child.

I don't know where you are getting your statistics, but a woman is much more likely to die during childbirth than from an abortion. However, aside from that, there are legitimate MEDICAL reasons for having an abortion - if the baby has shown via genetic testing that it will develop Tay Sachs disease and die a horrible death before it will reach the age of 4 or 5 years old, then it would be considered merciful to terminate the pregnancy and allow the parents to try again for a healthier child. If there was a cure for this then it would not be a valid medical reason, but as of now there is no cure. Is it better to bring a baby into the world knowing that it is destined to suffer a horrible death or end the pregnancy? You are ignoring the medical reasons for justifiable abortion.

You are basically asking someone to come up with a reason for abortion but to ignore all the reasons people have for getting an abortion. I do not want to carry a child but according to you, that is a selfish reason. If I completely ignore my own feelings, depression, the idea that I am possibly too emotionally unstable to deal with pregnancy without contemplating suicide and the fact that I should provide an infant for people too selfish to adopt an older child, then you are right and there is no valid reason for abortion over adoption.
You are an a** for thinking that there couldn't be a pregnant woman afraid of an abusive boyfriend. Men have gone after their pregnant ex/girlfriends because they were afraid they would somehow have to pay child support. They don't always believe the child will go up for adoption. Some women may not feel safe wherever they hide from them. Maybe you are lucky enough not to have ever known that type of fear.
**It's really NICE to know you would rather see me commit suicide than have an abortion. Also, I'll remember to keep my legs closed next time I'm raped.

Health reasons come to mind. She might be ill; sometimes women even DIE from pregnancy-related complications. Their choice is: die or have an abortion. What about the other happy children they would have had?
But why aren't selfish reasons valid? You'd want a woman to lose her job, her home, maybe a relationship, worsen the situation for kids she already has, lose absolutely everything she has and might never get back? In order to bring one more child into a world that's already overpopulated?
But anyway, other personal reasons come to mind. Like domestic abuse. Some women are afraid that they will be beaten or KILLED if anyone finds our they're pregnant. And sadly, a lot of them are right. Teenagers especially fear their parents and boyfriends. I know several girls who were beaten by their boyfriends.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
So that's an incorrect answer just because you can say "Oh well she shouldn't have gotten pregnant?" Not everyone is free to choose to move away. Where would she go AFTER the baby is born and these nice hypothetical adoptive parents are done with her? If she couldn't stay at home out of fear, she certainly can't go back. Can she live with them forever? Wow, that would be nice. Oh, wait. It doesn't happen.

First of all, let me say that I completely agree with you that abortion should not be used as a form of birth control. I believe that a woman exercises her freedom of choice when she chooses to have or not have sex. (Although there are some situations in which women do not exercise their freedom of choice and still get pregnant; see below.)
However, your argument that a woman is more likely to die from abortion than in childbirth doesn't dismiss the question about when the mother's life is in danger. When you are the woman in question, the likelihood of other women dying from childbirth or abortion doesn't come into your decision. If your life is in danger, what do you have to lose?
I believe that one of my neighbors was faced with this difficult choice. According to my understanding, she already had a husband and two children when she got pregnant and got so sick that she was forced to make a decision between losing the baby or her own life. She chose to stay and take care of her husband and the two children she already had. I hope I never have to make that decision, but I don't think she made an incorrect choice. I think it was a decision that only she could make, with the help of God.
You might say that a mother whose life is in danger if she doesn't abort the baby should be unselfish and choose the baby's life over her own. But what about other family members who need the woman? And what about the baby who grows up without a mother? Are you sure that's the best unselfish option? I think it depends a lot on the individual situation.
What about women who did not have a choice about whether they got pregnant, such as victims of rape?

The woman may have health issues.
She may not be able to deal with the social pressures of being pregnant and unwed (yeah, I know we're not in the age of the Scarlett Letter, but people are going to *know* if you are pregnant, and it's not necessarily easy to skip out of town for six months, and come back -- I'm talking very young women).
The pregnancy may be the result of a rape or incest. How hideous to be reminded of that constantly for nine months! A mentally unbalanced woman may not be able to survive that experience with her sanity.
The woman may be extremely young (14 or 15), and not physically able to bear a child without a great deal of damage to her health.
It's not so easy to connect with an adoption agency, either. And if the baby could go to a loving home guaranteed, that would be one thing. But sometimes adoptions do not work out very well. Some bad people slip through the screening process.
All in all, I don't believe in abortion -- I think a potential life is aborted, and that the reverbrations of that act echo throughout a woman's life. But, I think each woman should have the right to decide that for herself.

Though I do believe that adoption is the better choice, there are medical documentation that some women simply cannot give birth to the child without it dying, if there was a way to know with 100% certainty that the child would be born dead, then this would be a valid reason. Other than that, I cannot think of a one.

"First-trimester abortion is much safer for women than giving birth. But there are risks associated with any medical procedure. Your overall health may affect you risks of complications."
I guess your research was not as correct as you thought. Its not because they die from abortion its because there are other problems. And how could anyone have a child out of rape. Rape is such a horrilbe thing to happen to any human, and if someone got pregnant, they could never forget the horrible thing that happend to them. Its Pro-Choice, its the womans choice to decide what they want to do with their body. Live your own life, and quit worrying about others. Before you go pointing a finger at others, make sure your own hands are clean first, because no one is perfect in this world, not even you.

i don't think abortion should be used as birth control but i feel a woman should be able to make an educated choice.
Lets say a woman is raped and she becomes conceives from that rape, and she is in circumstances that if she will lose her job if she takes anytime off for being preg, and or medical problems due to the pregnancy, why should she have to either chose to lose her job and give up a baby or lose her job and have the baby and live the life of a single mom for the rest of her life based on one man breaking the law
Why should she pay for a mans crime?
I know this is a selfish point of view but can any man say that he would give up 9 months to 18-20 years of his life and lose his job over another man's crime?
I doubt it
And what if the woman sufferers from debilitating depression, if she keeps the child he suffers, if children's services takes the child away for the mothers inability to care for the child they both suffer, if she give the child up for adoption she may suffer even more, one must consider the quality of life of both the mother and child when considering abortion,
