That poem isn't on the Statue of Liberty.
And perhaps you've never read about how immigrants came to this country in the 19th century, which is when the statue was given to the US by France, and how often they were sent back if they were found too ill to work here, or if they had any type of mental illness.
They had to stay in barracks on Ellis Island until they were determined to not be a danger, disease-wise or otherwise to America, and then they were allowed to come into the country.
My ancestors were among those immigrants. They were sponsored here by another family. They didn't sneak in, or send money back to their old country. They worked hard with no handouts from the government or anyone else. They didn't go on welfare or use public health facilities without paying for them.
The fools in this country are the ones who think that we should just hand over our country to the people who are invading it illegally.

Now really, to you honestly believe that a large enough percentage of the American population single out immigrants and subject them to being the scapegoat for this countries national security problem for you to actually write a question about it?
Funny you should mention China: Do you know what happens to you if you sneak across the Chinese boarder? The same thing that happens to people crossing into the Mexican boarder from south America; you get shot. China just put thousands of troops on their boarder with North Korea, are they racists? Why don't you protest that considering that Mexicans live like kings and queens compared to the people of North Korea.
It's not immigration that will allow us to compete with China, but facing the problems of globalization. Now, one point you make is that traditionally it has always been a healthy thing when people immigrate to this country, but are most people crossing the Mexican boarder nuclear physicists? No, they're just honest hard working people looking for a job, right? Oddly enough the same people who think America should not be the world's police force, don't object to us being the world's employment agency.

First, the statue of liberty says:
JULY IV MDCCLXXVI
The date of the American Revolution. The poem was added later AND ISN'T WRITTEN ON THE STATUE, and wasn't penned by any authority. It isn't an american contract with the world.
Secondly, I am all pro-immigration. But I would rather have educated, hard-working people, who do it legally.
The illegals need to be removed, in my opinion. It is unfair to all worthy applicants who are refused because of those who do it illegally.
THIRD, despite what many say, I have many Highschool educated friends who can't get jobs because immigrants drive down the pay and working enviroment
Fourth, I am also concerned for the illegal immigrants themselves. Who are subjecting themselves to second-class citizenship and in turn destroying a valued egalitarian society at their own expense!

It was written by someone who won a contest, and was selected by private community groups raising money to put up the statute. It is not government action, and not an offer to the world.
Besides, once Americans could no longer go up in it due to goverment fears of terrorism, I think any fool could see things had changed.
It isn't about race. It is about limited resources and lack of any desire to pay to educate children of foreigners who broke the laws to steal their children's education from our children. Our own schools are failing and we don't WANT our population to grow any more, or we wouldn't have cut down on the number of our children. We like children as much as anyone.

No problem with immigration but it is out of control in my opinion.
And the influx of the illigals are a constant drain on the taxpayers of this country. Constantly filling up out hospitals , jails and schools.
Oh I forgot they come here to work. More like work the system.

this may well be a sturdy question, and it is going right alongside with the Preamble to the form of the U. S. and it says: "We the persons of the U. S., with the intention to style a extra suitable Union, set up Justice, insure family individuals Tranquility, furnish for the complication-loose defence,[one million] sell the standard Welfare, and guard the reward of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and set up this shape for america." i think of that many of the felony/unlawful immigrants that come to america of a could provide up and scratch their head and say "this would not make experience, enormously in Arizona". What befell to due technique and the suitable to be loose and secure at your residence"? Oh properly we further it onto ourselves while we pick the politicians that be particular the Federal court Judges and ultimate court Justices. This united states grow to be per "In God we have faith", many human beings have grew to become removed from God and look what befell. have you ever stopped and theory approximately this; many third international countries are corrupt because of the fact they grew to become removed from God and the persons have self assurance in pagan Gods, so look what happens, pestilence, floods, starvation. God help us all.

No, it's not. We welcome them when they do it legally. Illegal immigrants broke the law and a lot of people want them to be prosecuted. Who we elected does not show how intelligent the people of our country are it just means we're gullible enough to fall for their tactics e.g. Nazi Germany the people voted Hitler as leader with huge margins but there are many intelligent Germans living there at that time. With the recent election it looks like the American people got a clue.
