Keep peppering your city/state representatives with letters in support of improved enforcement on immigration...don't let em forget it..., also, see if there's any citizens' groups in your area that are concerning themselves with the issue.

Many illegals have actually forged documents and become registered to vote. At the rate that it's happening, it's not a good idea for anybody planning on having a pollitical carrer in the future. There are many politicians who wan't to do something, but the sad truth is that they're an ever decreasing commodity.

Good grief, do you want to see the spectacle of 12 million to 13 million people (men, women and children) rounded up and deported? If you think the US has a poor image overseas now, think how THAT would play internationally!
Plus, we have always been the haven for those who are struggling for a better life. Are you going to say that because they didn't get a visa first that they should be shipped back home?
Even the most conservative Republican admits that they aren't going to deport anyone. it's not humane. The thing to do is make sure all the people in this country illegally become legal and then find a way to stop new ones from coming illegally. Perhaps liberalizing visas would help. As it currently stands, poor Mexicans and El Salvadorans have little hope of getting a visa to the US

Because there would be a fall in the economy. Illegals come to America and do the hard work that Americans are too lazy or proud to do themselves. Now, that's a lot of labor. With them gone, who will pick your fruit and vegetables? Who will mow your lawn? Who will slaughter and pack your meat? Who will build your home? Who will clean your house? Who will watch your kids? Must I go on (cuz I could, ya know.)??? It seems the illegals may not be welcome here, but, they are definitely accepted in our economy. Anyway, they are here for the same reason your anscestors immigrated here. To make a better life for themselves. The only difference is: Most illegals now-days return to their homeland after they have accomplished their goal. Now, Why on earth would politicians want to bother with deportation?

You mean deportation of all illegals immediately?
Do you have ANY idea how much that would cost?!
We deport the ones we find and although we could be doing better.. to find and deport them all would cost waaaayyyyyyy too much.
We should at least find a way to plug up the hole before we start shovelling out water.

Because the cost of deporting all illegals would be in the billions of dollars.
Coragryph has put together the costs in an easy-to-understand manner on his 360 page:

The politicians get campaign money, and later jobs, from businesspeople. the businesspeople want the cheap labor that they get from illegals. So the politicians will never really fight to stop illegal immigration. I don't know how to fix it.

because not everybody agrees with you that they need to be deported. I used to live in California, where there are many illegal immigrants. Many provide services that legals won't. I never had trouble finding a job due to an illegal immigrant getting it, have you?

Because it is a stupid idea. Most of the politicians hire illegal immigrants to help around their mansions.

It's a political trainwreck. Even mentioning it to a news media would end their political career.
