I dunno last time I checked a day meant the time it takes for earth to spin around once on it's axis...not a day being earth rotating a thousand times around the sun. Perhaps I'm confused...

no it means that God lives in a completely different dimension that we do. He isn't bound by time. A thousand years our time can seem like the blink of an eye to him. God can tell time, He created it! For us!! and He created the earth in 6 literal 24-hour days! And rested for 24 hours after that! That verse serves to remind us that He is coming soon and that we are only here for a short time on this earth, so start living for Him!

This passage is an attempt to explain to us eternity. Get out your claculator and you can figure this: If you are lucky enough to live 100 years, when you die and face eternity, it will seem as though you had only lived on this earth 2.4 hours. To God, Jesus died only 2 days ago. It can also work the exact opposite. For every year that you live it will be like you lived 365000 years. Thats why Christians seem to have a sense of urgency "Time is short". Thats why you do not want to spend eternity in Hell, time will be stretched and you will be thinking "I had all that time to accept Christ, why didn't I?".

You gotta remember God created the earth AND the sun and universe. He made the first day and night. To God, time is irrelevant, to us a day is 24 hrs, to God it's like a thousand years.

It's saying that what is a day compared to eternity? Can you or I in our finite minds even conceive of the notion of eternity? An average lifespan of 70 or 80 years seems like a long time to us but it's like a blink to God who always has been and always will be.

God is saying that his timing is not ours. We are always rushing and everything seems important and we have absolutely no patience. He's expressing to us that time is irrelevant to Him and His purposes. It also makes one think about the book of Genesis...;o) But you weren't seriously asking were you?
