If you think about how long it is for every person until they are born till they wake up from the sleep of death to see Jesus, it is about 70 years. A lot of times less than that. So every individual needs to be ready all the time. But Christ describes the wait for his return in the parable of the bride groom. Every single person in the wedding party fell asleep while waiting for the groom. Except half of the virgins had enough oil(which represents the Holy Spirit). So obviously it will be longer than anyone expected. I think it is very important for every Christian to make sure they are constantly being filled by the Holy Spirit. We have to plan like Jesus will never come in our lifetime, but live like we will die tomorrow. And you are right. We do never know the day or the hour or year even. But we are to watch and be ready. The real sign of the end is when the Gospel is preached to the whole world. That is our job, otherwise the wait will be longer. I think everyone can say to amen to getting off this stinking sin filled planet.

Those who understand prophecy know that all the pieces need to be in place before the end. The formation of the nation of Israel was a major prophetic step. We are now close to the time of troubles. Israel has enemies all around it, the world cries out for peace, but the leaders of the nations cannot bring it about, we are headed towards a cashless society and persecution of Christians and Jews is rising. He is near, even at the door.
