He also develops sores under his front legs near his chest amd near his groin. Is this some kind of skin allergy? I paid a lot of money for him and he is supposed to be of sound breeding health wise. Are skin sores a sign of a defect for a pure bred?

Hopefully he doesn't have the mange but I would tell you to get to a vet tomorrow. My dog, sheltie, had a virus that made him throw up in the middle of the night and it was of the same that you describe. My vet told me to feed him cottage cheese and white rice for 4-5 days and then slowly ween him back to his regular dog food along with the cottage cheese and white rice. It worked. I wish you and your puppy dog the best. Good Luck!

the sores could mean he has fleas and is biting/scratching himself... watch him closely.
