Seven years ago I gave my Mom a chihahua for her B-day.I know they're 1 person dogs but he's nice to everyone but me.When I got him I kept him in a dog carrier for 2 days and couldn't coax him out . I've never hurt him on the contrary i've done all I could to win him over. He's come along a little but not much,I can only get near him thats all, once he ate jerky from my hand but only with Mom around. How can I win him over 7 years is long to hold a grudge!!he's got to get over it right??We've made progress but little and slowly.Sometimes I think he enjoys it cause Mom says he looks for me when Im not around and seems to miss me!!Is this a game to him or is there a chance for reconciliation between me and the little mutt?! I like him and would like to someday pet and give him affection but I cant even pick him up now what do I do have I in someway scarred him by scaring him,Once I chased him round the house but didn't hurt him he's very spoiled its ridiculous!!!!

Your history with the dog is in the past. He doesn't remember whatever happened beyond the last time he ate a meal. The problems you indicate stem from: not enough exercise, boredom, lack of mental stimulation, and leadership.

The dog doesn't respect you. Coddling the animal doesn't help. He thinks you are the bottom of the heap, which I am sure you are not. The problem can be fixed.

Regularly walk him long and far until he is exhausted. Make sure he follows you, and goes through doors after you. Do not react to his undesirable behaviors. Do not let your actions follow the dog's cue. Ask him to do something for you (sit or lie down) before you pet him, or give him a treat.

If he doesn't know what to do, train him. He will respect those he has to work for. Dogs also like the intellectual stimulation of learning. You are building the dog's vocabulary of understanding.

Have patience. Drop expectations and don't hold your breath, or your emotions and interrupted breathing will out you to the dog. Just enjoy anything about him that inches towards good behavior. He'll come around. Good luck!

Sorry, I'm not a Chihuahua fan, they are not my idea of a dog I'd like to have as a pet. He sounds like a spoiled brat that knows he can treat you any way he wants. I say just ignore the little monster.

If he is leash trained, taking him for walks is the best way to bond and make best friends..a harness, rather than a collar is best for walking little dogs..
Next ime he goes to the vet for shots or such..take your mom home, and YOU be the one to rescue him..that always works, too..
the same with the groomer..Have mom Take him in to have his nails clipped, and ask that they put him in a cage for a little while, then YOU be the one to rescue him..(nails just cost $6 or so..)

ask whoever normally feeds, walks, and grooms him if you can take over for awhile. If the dog begins to assiciate you with good things, the love will come later! Playing helps too :)

Maybe he is just a good judge of character- only kidding. Continue to give him treats and he will eventually tolerate you, maybe even like you. Good luck.
