However, you MIGHT Be able to get Foreign Language Proficiency Pay if you test out as being fluent, and it you can have a not placed in your record about your availability as a translator..used mostly in the streets, not on classified documents or anything

As a resident alien you can enlist in the US Armed Forces. To become a linguist, you must hold a security clearance which you cannot do as a resident alien - you must be a naturalized citizen. So...enlist, use your honorable discharge at the end of your first enlistment to file for citizenship and once you have it re-enlist and then apply for the DLAB school.
