American Freestyle=Muay Thai, Jui Jitsu, Grappling(wrestling)
Theres this guy named Akiyama fights in Japan. If the guy is a better kick boxer then him he will wear a robe and do Ju Jitsu. If he thinks he's the better boxer then he will take off the robe and throw down. Thats the best style, adapting to your situation. Most fighters will agree that physical condition is the most important thing. If your talking about swords and ninja stars then I don't know.

There IS NO "best" Martial Art, There is only better fighters, no "best" Martial Art. there Is no Martial Art that is "better" than another, each discipline has it's own strengths and weaknesses, so YOU have to train to perfect your techniques, How you train reflects on how you fight.
and because you are human, you will NEVER have FULL control of your actions.

Ive been doing Northern Kung-Fu for almost 6 years. I love the weapon and the katas but the best part is the sparring. But i stoped going for a year because i moved to clovis and my Kung-Fu school is in madera. So i join something to keep me busy and that was Muay Thai and its the best. It doesn't focus on kata or weapons but more on fight and that what i love doing best. Muay Thai is the Best maybe i can mix Kung Fu with Muay Thai and call it Kung Thai or Muay fu

BJJ (Brazillian Jui-jitsui, Gracie Jui-jitsu, Gracie bara)
or
Mui-tai(Thai Kickboxing)
Either is deadly by itself. Combine the two and learn both, then you are effective in any hand to hand combat.
These disciplines have groomed the most no holdes barred fighters. Professional fighters now have to know both techniques.

The best martial art is the one that is not used. All are based on self discipline and use different tecniques to focus your mental and physical energy. My personal choice was Tai Kwan Do and Judo. The 1st focus is on power, and completely disabling your opponent, the 2nd focus is on using your opponents force against him, and making his efforts useless.

There is no "best" Martial Art. There are many good arts, all with there strong & weak points. It's the artist, not the art.

There is no best art only best artists.
The quality and frequency of training will outweigh the style you are training in.
