It's very out of character for me to lie about anything and I'm just sick about it because I couldn't bare for him to think of me as a liar.
This happened very accidentally when I applied for a very important job I expected to get and was then too embarrased to say that I'd failed the interview. I know I should have just told him but I was crushed about missing out on the job. I can't keep this lie up much longer as we will soon be living closer to eachother and also, I don't want to be lie to someone I care about. How do I fix this with the minimum of embarassment?

Tell him exactly what you put on here. Be as honest as possible and just keep telling him you didn't want to tell him because you were afraid of what he'd think of you if you didn't get the job. Tell him how embarrassed you were that you didn't get the job and maybe that you were afraid he'd be disappointed in you.
