Hi, I grew up with a Bi-Polar Mom so I know what you are going through. I never knew what to expect when I came home from school...my sweet Mom or my vicious, mean Mom. It was very confusing and frustrating. Now that I'm older and understand the illness a little better, I can handle her better. I try to tell myself "that's not my Mom, that's the disease" when she gets really manic. Here is a site I found that can connect you to support groups in your area and has an on line support chat group where you can ask questions and talk to people who understand. Please look it up and try to get some help. Remember it is her illness that makes her say & do things. Be sure she takes her meds everyday. Bipolar people don't usually like to take their meds and that is when they get manic.I wish you the best. Here is what you look up:Depression & BiPolar Support Alliance.

Well first up, you're not alone, so that means there is help out there. You may need to look around and ask around, but I'd suggest that a good starting point would be http://www.crazyboards.org - don't be put off by the name, it's a very large and very supportive group (it's like a second family, for me). You will get support there, but someone may well know of teen specific sites as well.
If you haven't read it, then I'd also like to suggest you beg, borrow or steal a copy of The Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide - I'v put an Amazon link below. Amazon will almost certainly recommend Loving Someone With Bipolar Disorder, but I found that rather cheesy.
Above all, be strong. Your mom can get better - I did, and my kids are just a couple of years younger than you. Email me if you want more.

Julia, there are support groups for teens with Bipolar parents- you may need to just find one online. I can relate- not with having a bipolar mom, but a bipolar brother. I don't know which state you live in but you may want to try contacting the Mental Health Mental Retardation (MHMR) office nearest you first. If that isn't available then opt for an online group so you can have a place to chat with others that can offer advice and listen when you need to blow off some steam. I wish you the best and am praying for you.

Sweetie, I don't know what to tell you. Check your county health unit & see if there's a local mental health unit & seek help from there. I truly feel for you. My husband was diagnosed with it 4 yrs ago. He recently stopped taking his meds & I'm about to put him out. I don't know if I can deal with it much longer. I know it's got to be more difficult for you as your choices are limited. Good luck.
