Remain as active as possible throughout the day.

It's better for weight loss to "move" constantly doing small things, than to be a couch potato who exercises for 30 minutes a day.

Any movement raises your metabolism above basal.

I am 45 and I was searching for the same answer some time ago. I was drinking Mountain Dews then I went to Amp's but I was gaining weight like crazy and emptying my pocket just as fast as I would drink 2 or 3 a day. Then I found a natural and healthy energy drink that is only about $1 per serving. I started drinking 2 a day (8am & 1pm) and what a difference. I started loosing weight, I had energy, I had more endurance and stamina, and I was even sleeping better at night. My health has turned around and I am glad I made that change. These drinks work in minutes and last for several hours. You can get a FREE SAMPLE so you can try it before you buy it none of the other drink manufacturers are doing that. Check out my profile to see how you, your family, your friends, or anyone can get one FREE. I did and I am glad that I did. Here is to your increased metab and also to your health

Several ideas, that I have picked up over the years:

1) Weight training. Increases the amount of actin and myosin protein present in your muscles. Increases in muscle protein mean that body must burn more calories to support the muscle.

2) keep your house or apartment on the cool side, say about 65 degrees. This will induce your body to burn fuel (first carbs, then fats, then proteins) at an increased rate.

3) eat 5 small meals, once every 3 hours, and a light snack before bed. When you eat dinner and then wait 10 or 12 hours for breakfast, your body stops storing glucose and breaks down fat and glycogen molecules for energy.

Sorry to say this but.

Aerobic exercise in combination with lifting weights. Muscles drive your metabolism. Most of the calories burned in a day are used to fuel your muscles. Eating small meals will help keep your metabolism at a constant level not speed it up. You have to exercise and exercise of any kind will increase your muscle mass.

If the reason you are asking this question is to lose weight let me give you some suggestions. After you exercise, depending on the person, your metabolism will be operating at an accelerated rate. This effect will last up to several hours after a person exercises. A trick that body builders have been using for years is to break an exercise routine into 2 smaller sessions in a day, thereby causing your body to have an accelerated metabolism for two lengthy periods. This enhances the burning of fat stores.
