My brother is 21 and has had one job his whole life for 6 months. He is not going to school right now and likes to sleep all day and party all night. What can I do to motivate him to get his life started?

Make him responsible for his own life.
"You can't help anyone that won't help himself." Believe me, that's a verrry true statement. If you do help them, they tend to take advantage of you.
That doesn't mean push him aside, that means guide him.

Chances are he knows what's right and is going along for the ride, as long as people allow it. That's enabling him.

If he were on his own he would be responsible for EVERYTHING that affects him.

Who pays for his partying? Who pays for his food? Who pays for his roof over his head? Who pays for his car and gas? I'm sure you see where I am going with this.

Don't baby him and don't enable him. Don't make it easy for him to get away with it. At the same time let him know you love him and are there for him if he falls. You don't expect him to do everything perfect...noone does.

He might not feel like he can be responsible for himself. Let him know he can do it, and making mistakes is a normal part of life.
Knowing a person is going to make mistakes is tough, but knowing you can learn from them is sometimes the best way to learn.

Hope this helps !
