I remember before I became a Christian, looking thru the Bible was like trying to read a foreign language with all those the's and thou's. It made no sense at all. I was given a little tract that said on the front in big letters"WILL YOU GO TO HEAVEN" and on the inside was a list of scriptures for me to read, thats all, no explanations or anything. Just a list. Knowing nothing about the Bible I figured out how to find those verses. For the first time ever I could make perfect since from the Bible. All of the sudden sermons from preachers that I had heard in the past came to mind.It all clicked, the verses were crystal clear and I prayed to God for forgiveness and gave my life to the Lord. From that moment I was able to understand and study the Bible. It was like some sort of veil was lifted from my eyes and I began to see clearly.

ditto. I have been a student of theology for over 28 years, and all of my research leads me to the same conclusion as you. I do believe that there is a god or creater, and I too have a close relationship with him/her/it. However, I do not follow any written doctrinal teachings. I have found, through my research that if you look at all the major books from the major religions of the world, even though the stories are somewhat different, the basic values and morals are the same. So I live my life by one code, "treat others as you would wish to be treated." Try to do right, and stay away from the wrong. I believe that religion as it is in today's society is nothing more than a system of deceit and betrayal. If you read the papers or watch the news, there is always a preist being convicted of mollesting an innocent child. There is always a molvy (muslim preist) talking of killing. And all any of them ever really want is your money. I find organized religion to be one of the most evil institutions in existence, right next to politics!

Most people are like you. The bible is basically a guide, every word is not meant to be taken literally. You have to think about it this way...These stories were written will after the fact and as stories go when you tell them from one person to another things change...God did not write the bible man did. If your read the bible it contradicts itself. Take the good from it and learn from it, just don't go by every word, it doesn't work in our time, it did for those back when...Even the Church changes with the times and what is acceptable now, wouldn't be then. Just be a good person, that's all anyone can ask for....

Your relationship with God needs to be refreshed and moving forward. It is a process. Ask the holy spirit to make the Bible real for you. Read it, start in John and ask God where next? I have a concordance so when I have a question I can look it up and find out where in the Bible I can find scripture on what I am going through.

Really try to read it and watch your relationship increase. Be Christ like, to do so you need to read how Christ was.

God Bless

BTW there are a lot of prayers and good songs in there as well to worship when you are talking with God

Believing in God is being spiritual. Reading the bible and assimilating the pearls of wisdom contained in the bible of Christianity is following your religion.

Spirituality and religion are entirely different things. The followers of spirituality enter the domain of God. They ultimately gain enlightenment in the last leg of their journey as a human being and reach the stage of salvation (aka Moksha in Hinduism).

Spirituality is never taught in schools but religion is. Spirituality can never be taught in schools. It is only available in the sacred scriptures of the various religions of the world.

Following religion is having a belief in God. Not necessarily that a believer in religion is required to follow the path of spirituality. How many all over the world desire enlightenment and finally salvation. It is not that easy to achieve.

Religion primarily is following an enlightened master. Jesus Christ gained enlightenment and his teachings were recorded in the bible. The religion that followed was known as Christianity. A believer in Jesus Christ need not be believer of spirituality. One can partly follow both. It is always best to follow your religion and also the path of spirituality if one seeks gaining entry into the house of God one-day.

Belief or disbelief in the bible need not necessarily mean that the teachings of the bible are incomprehensible. It is purely a matter of belief and faith. As many human beings as many paths for reaching the kingdom of God! In the system of God human beings (the highest stage of manifestation) have been given the power of discrimination to choose what suits them best. To follow or not to follow is the soul prerogative of every human being. More on god here- http://www.godrealized.com/god.html

It is posible to believe in God and not the Bible, but it is not a good idea. The Bible is what teaches us about God. I personally believe that Jesus will come and take us to hevean when it is time. No human knows the day nor the hour. The Bible stands for Basic Instructions Befor Leaving Earth. It instructs us about the foods we should eat, the clothes we should wear, and the lifestyle we should live.

I'm with you! I think the Bible has a lot of good wisdom, a lot of stories that are no more than symbolic.....and prejudicial stuff from those times and errors! I don't have a problem with studying it, just trying to make something out of every single thing that's in there and/or believing it's "more" the "Word of God" than other things. Did God write us a book 2000 years ago, then decide to stop talking to us? That makes no sense to me. I'm spiritual but not Religious because religions almost always go overboard in thinking they KNOW "what God Wants". I have my OWN personal relationship with God.

It is impossible to have a very close relationship with the God of the Bible,if you don't believe what God says.
The Bible, which is God's inspired written word,Jehovah God reveals himself,to us.We learn what kind of God he is and what he requires of his worshipers, and how we can draw close to him and enjoy a real close relationship with Him.Until you study the Bible and learn about Jehovah and his many qualities you can not begin to have a relationship with Him.In fact, the word "God" is not a name but a title. How can you have a relationship with someone who's name you don't even know or use?
(Ps.83:18;2Tim.3:16,17)

That depends on what god you believe in. If you believe in the one true God, then the Bible would certainly be the Word of God to you.

My spiritual beliefs are that based on your question, if you don't believe in the Bible, then you do not know God. You may have a relationship with a god, but not the one true God.
