There are many types of set-top boxes. That term refers to anything that will plug into yous TV's antenna or external video inputs. A cable box is a set-top box. So is a satellite receiver. A tuner to receive digital broadcasts is also one. Basically it is an electronic device that adds functionality to your TV that it doesn't have internally. So if your TV has a digital tuner, you don't need a set-top box to receive broadcast digital TV.

Do you mean a set top box so that you can pick up all the availabe digital channels in your area ?
