Buddhism views life in general as a perpetual classroom. The afterlife is nothing but changing classrooms to go for another class. Like this life is a biology lesson and the bell rings ( we die ), and its off to the next life/class, but this time it is Art Appreciation classes.

Graduation is Nirvana when one has reach a perfected stated of total harmony, peace and tranquility. Easy to say but takes lifetimes and eons to attain

Buddhism views the after life as a locker room where we change from our job as say a Fireman, to the clothes of a Loving Father, to the clothes of your local bowling club members and at night as a Romantic and Caring husband.

Each has its function each has it lessons to teach.

when you die you can be reborn into a new life. the bottom line is like in most other religions is that the soul lives on.
