There is a difference between vanity and anorexia.
I had anorexia, and it is in no way glamorous at any point during the illness. It's very much related to the mind, self-perception, and body image, and is one of the most difficult psychological illnesses to treat. Many people who have it die from it, not because they wanted to be sexy or glamorous, but because the disorder took over their lives to the point where their body could not sustain itself any longer. I recovered from it, fortunately, and am now healthy again.
I understand what you mean about losing weight for a little while, extreme dieting can be very dangerous as well. Holding up extremely thin models or celebrities as the ideal image is also something that adds to the problem. In any case, a healthy body-image is a key element to preventing and recovering from eating disorders.

People do not make anorexia look glamorous. Anorexia is a body dysmorphic disorder; the diseased person even when very thin thinks they are fat.

I am not 100% sure if the following is historically true, but if my art history is correct, women have frequenly been depicted in great works of art as "plump", i.e. slightly larger than average.

So, the great artists, e.g. Peter Paul Rubens, more often than not make women that are slightly larger than normal look glamorous.

It's today's media, mainly television and magazines that push the unhealthy look on women of all ages. But the ones most affected and certainly the most vulnerable are the young female teenagers. Parents, friends, teachers, coaches and other respected adults need to let the kids know that that look is unhealthy and the average look is much safer and practical.

I never saw an anorexic that looked glamorous. Nobody thinks a skeleton looks good. Anorexia is a very dangerous disease and it is a sad, sad way to die.

I whole-heartedly agree. I am slender and very petite, I get all kinds of serious crap about eating and blah blah blah. Believe me when I say that I definitely eat what I want, but I also eat healthy most of the time. Anorexia is a sick mind disease that leaves the body wasted, not very sexy in my opinion.

Its sad that people feel the need to be thin to fit in.
I used to be overweight and I developed an eating disorder and lost the weight. You can blame magazines and television all you want for making girls feel that way, but I have notice that people treat you differently when you are overweight. I really can't blame people for developing an eating disorder.

I agree, but the thing is society/media has this image set that other girls want to portray (tall, long legs, skinny, and sickly looking) which totally excludes girls like myself (5'1, 195lbs, short legs, and thick of course but damn proud of what God made me) from that media stereotype, for the life of me I don't understand, but some things we will never have the answer to, nor will we ever understand!

I agree. People who want to be anoretic, make anorexia look glamorous, not those who actually have it.

Because of the obesity epidemic-it's the other extreme. With so many people over-weight, glamourizing the under-weight is an efffective marketing tool.
