You can cut them if needed. Avoid the obvious curve part that may contain the quick which will bleed. Since most birds may find the experience a bit traumatic have an experienced breeder or vet do it so you won't be viewed as the bad guy to the bird. Buy a couple of cement perches so that the nails will stay trimmed in the future due to wear and tear on the rough surface. Corn starch can be used should bleeding occur. Good luck with whatever decision you feel comfortable with.

I have a pet lorikeet, and she suffers from nerve damage because her previous owners didn't care for her nails. Keeping up with your birds nails is extremely important. It can be done at home with no formal instruction. It maybe take a few tries to get comfortable doing so. The quick is the vein in your bird's toenail that will bleed if you cut too far toward the foot. Keep quikstop on hand. This is a product that will quickly clot the wound in the event that you do quick them. Cut just a very small amount off the tip of the nail, just so much that perching and movement is comfortable for him. It may be helpful to gently cover the head with a towelle, so as not to spook him.

Yes, you should definetly cut your parakeet's nails. If you don't the nails might hurt you when they sit on your finger. You should also cut their nails because the parakeet might injure itself while it's scratching itself. It's feet can also get stuck in the carpet and it will be hard to get it out.
You should cut the very tip of the nail, becausebirds have blood in their nails. Cut the tip so it's not pointy.
I had a parakeet who's nail was stuck in the carpet and we couldn't get it out. At the end, we had to make a hole in the carpet to get it out.

Yes, you should trim their nails like every month. If you don't then they would have probelms standing correctly. I have parakeets. When their nails are long they don't feel comfortable. When you cut them just make sure you don't cut past the vein. It will start to bleed and could make serious injury. Good Luck!

Yes also I wouldn't use a concrete perch or sandpaper perch this can be very uncomfortable to the birds feet. It can skin their feet and also callus.Use a wash cloth or kitchen towel to secure the bird .Hold it gently while your husband just clips off the tip if it starts to bleed use quik stop to stop the bleeding if the nail is white you should be able to see the vein

Do cut them this time, but buy a concrete perch . Their feet shouldn't go all the way around, but almost. This will keep their nails trimmed.

Yes you do. But you can't cut too much off because they have a vain in the toenail and it will bleed very bad.. All you need to cut is the very end off.

I'm a guy, and individually, I don't like long nails. I actually know a lot of like very long, painted nails cause they're "so pretty", but I don't like them.

A little bit of toenail is fine... but I agree along with you. Long nails are kinda low.
