My fiancee has a cold, well we think. He feels like he was hit by a truck, has a stuffed nose, sore throat and a fever. He has had it for 3 days now. Is it the cold or something else? What should we do?

Since we cannot cure a cold or flu, they are viruses, we have to treat the symptoms and try to comfort the person the best way we can. Increase in Vit C, and Zinc helps build the immune system so that infection can be fought off easier. Tylenol or motrin for fever and pain. You can get throat soothing drops for the sore throat. Rest is best when you are sick, your body heals faster while sleeping. If the fever and sore throat does not go away with the cold/flu, then you need to take him to the Doctor to check for tonsillitis or strept throat.

There are hundreds of strains of the virus that causes the common cold.
No medication get rid of a cold, however there are vitamins such a vit c and zinc that helps give the immune system a boost.

Have your boyfriend drink plenty of fluids, maybe some over the counter cold medications ( to help with unwanted side effects of the cold) and rest.

secondary responses can occure from a cold. If he becomes short of breath or complications breathing, get him to the ER. If changes in mucous, a follow up with doctor may be warnted for a secondary infection.
You should start taking vit c and zinc and drink plent of fluids and get plenty of rest too.
Hope he feels better.

Every time my husband gets really really down with a cold he ends up with a sinus infection.....and needs antibiotics. It's a pain in the a** trying to talk him into going to the doc, but once he goes and gets a prescription he is better within 24 hours. See if you can get him to go in if he is running a fever or has blood in his nose.

I stay rugged up all the time, even if its uncomfortable and I drink plenty of fluids. It could be the flu as someone else suggested. Your best bet is to treat it like the flu and get something suitable from the chemist.

Colds can't be cured. They are virus illnesses, and no virus can be cured. There are things to help comfort, like cough medecines, decongestants, and booster things that have vitamins and stuff that help you overcome colds. "airborne" is one. Its like a little tablet that you dissolve in a cup of water, drink that and it helps you recover. Drink lots of fluids, and get lots of rest.

That is the best way to get over a cold,

A cold has to run its course, because there is no cure for one. In other words, he's stuck with it till it goes away on its own.

rest, fluids (gaterade- if he isn't eating anything else), vit. C- or orange juice, probably is a cold- if he doesn't get better within a week- go to the doc.

laughter.

Seriously, my strategy is to sing in the shower.

The steam loosens up the gunk in your airways, and the singing creates some vibration in your lungs, nose, and sinuses. The net result: you are able to get all of that phlegm out of your system.
