Yes!!
We've had two female rotties. Our first lived to be 7 years old. We got her at 2 months old to replace an 18 year old dachshund (what a change!) Our sons rough-housed with her, loved her to pieces, and ran all over the farm with her. The worst she ever did with them was to roll over and maybe walk away if she didn't want to be hassled anymore. Never a growl. Her kennel was her sanctuary and the kids knew to stay away when she went in to be by herself.
We had to put her to sleep when her shoulder cancer returned even more malignant than before surgery.

Our current rottie is a scamp, but her temperament is so similar to the old dog's that we sometimes confuse their names! She is my girl, and will put her body between me and strange people at the door. Since my boys are mostly grown, she hunts and runs with them. However, our dog knows my mom is very frail, and her whole behavior changes when my mom is around... she's protective and stands still so my mom won't trip on her.

We have had so many dogs over the years, and always obedience trained them from the first day they were in our home. Because of their size and strength, rottweilers require that their owners be the Alpha male and/or female in the house or they will dominate you. They are clever and eager to learn and obey. Once they understand the "pecking order" they are wonderful dogs, reliable companions, and trustworthy with both kids and the elderly.

I have always felt very badly for the rottweilers whose owners neglect and abuse them, twisting their gentle intelligence and making them into snarling, angry, defensive monsters. It's too bad, and a few indivduals have given the rest of the breed a bad name.

I like most but one across the street from me attacked my Jack Russell Terrier in my own backyard while I wasn't home. My dog is lucky he is small and was able to get away by hiding in a deep hole my other dog dug out and the rottie was to big to get in it. This all happened before I put the doggy door in. I don't know why my other dog wasn't protecting him because normally she would have.

I got an old Rottie named Mojo....he's gonna be 13 in June. They are great dogs and excellent with kids, as long as you have them as house pets and not chained outside. This type of dog is very friendly and needs to socialize. When my daughter was born, Mojo would not let me near her....he was very protective an still is.

I don't have one, but they're one of my favorite breeds.. such magnificant animals. I knew one when I was 8 years old.. her name was Sasha and she behaved very well with me as a child.

Also, I took my dog to the park and there was a female Rott their with her family, and she followed the kids in the family around and was guarding them.. she was protective of them and didn't want the other dogs near them. So the Rotts I've seen have been awesome with kids!

I own 2. One of them saved my son from being attacked by a pitbull. I won't have any other breed.
