I have been comparing the prices of D-SLR cameras on ebay, and I'm unsure of the differance between the manufactors lens kit and an aftermarket kit. Are the aftermarket kits compariable quality or shoul I go with the manufactors?

In the end it is the quality of the lens that makes the image. If you buy a great name brand camera and then try to save money by putting an inferior aftermarket lens on there you could just as well have gone cheap for everything. Your camera investment was wasted. I always go with the manufacturers even though part of what you are paying for is the label because the rest is pure quality and superior design.

Sigma, Tokina, & Tamron all make good lenses. They, like Nikon & Canon have a range of lenses that varies from cheap to very expensive pro glass.

If you are looking for a particular lens then it is best to do a more direct comparison of lenses in that category. There are several websites that do lens reviews.

I recently purchased a used pro level lens off of ebay. I did purchase the Nikon lens but seriously looked at both Sigma and Tokina and would have bought either of those if the price had been right. Also, I just finished a photography class and the instructor was a serious photographer who has his work hanging in museums. In his camera bag he has third party lenses right along with his Nikons.

Look at the reviews and find the best values.

Don't believe the manufacturer's hype. Sigma is a reputable lens manufacturer and you will not notice any difference in photo quality. Two of the main components of a lens are the elements and the lens itself. On low end models, the lens elements are glued in place. On high quality lens the elements are secured with tiny screws. Very cheap lens may be made from plastic..I'd stay away from them. High quality lens are have ground glass lens. Better...., but still differences..lower quality lens may have distortion from uneven polishing or poor quality glass.

you have have been given particularly a choose record for "not high priced". you incredibly assume to get all that technologies for "not high priced". you're dreaming and that i think of you recognize it. as properly there are not many slr cameras in the industry at the instant because of the fact they use action picture and as all of us could comprehend via now, action picture is on that is way out. There are whether many dslr cameras on the industry, those are digital and don't require action picture. yet i'm able to inform you this. A consumer-friendly dslr digital camera, I do advise consumer-friendly, $500 - the Canon t3 (1100D). that is "not high priced" via dslr criteria. high priced... properly professional cameras initiate at $4,000 or so. Sorry, "not high priced" would not even come into it.
