I take the zoloft as prescribed, but have about 20 beers on weekend, smoke maryjane about 4 times a week, and abuse prescription pills, lots of energy drinks and then lots of downers like sleep aids. At school I can't seem to socialize with people and just dont want to, but at home with my friends I have a great time and when I work on the roof I feel great. Any comments?

Well first of all, you are crossing out the benefits of your medication by also introducing MJ, alcohol, and other prescription pills into your system on top of the Zoloft.

You cannot take all of these things together and expect results from your Zoloft, and that is the simple bottom line.

It is no wonder with the chemicals and mind altering substances that are mingling in your system, that you are not benefiting from your prescribed meds.
It's a hard choice, that is true, but you will have to eliminate all that alcohol and prescription drug use, as well as your adrenaline supplements in order to notice any effects from Zoloft.

I am not an MD, so you need to speak with one.
Perhaps, you need to be honest with the MD who prescribed you Zoloft and let them know all of these other substances that you take on a regular basis. They will be able to advise you with authority.

Addictions are extremely difficult to control and as such you may need to look into a rehab type situation. It takes 21 days to break a habit so you have to be really prepared to break an addiction. I dont think Zoloft can work with the additional substances in your system or that Zoloft isnt the medication for you, I would go back to my Dr be upfront about everything and see what is said, if you want to break the addiction then follow your Dr's advice...good luck!

It can take several months for Zoloft to truly become effective for your system. It's a medication that takes time to build up in your body. I took Zoloft for several years. Properly used it can really make a difference in your life. My suggestion is to stay with it as prescribed by your doctor. Don't give up. Lots of people stop taking medications when they don't see instant results... however many medications take a while to work. Do not just stop taking Zoloft cold turkey. That can be very dangerous. Consult your doctor first. Also, you might want to visit my website for more information on this type of medications. http://www.attackanxiety.com

ugh.. wow first this sounds like my brother, second.. lets go over this .. ZOLOFT can not me mixed with alcohol and drugs .. just can't.. the fact is .. you can expect it to work with all the other stuff your doing... then its not safe to mix an upper with a downer...did you know theres supposed to be a limit of energy and alcoholic drinks because of the effect of an upper and downer... you need to reevaluate your life.. eventually your body will give out.. it is not meant to handle that kind chemical changes.. example i have worked with a man whom I thought was mentally handicapped.. it turned out it was because he took prescription drugs, heroin, and alcoholic beverages and after while what was left of him ... was barely anything.. he walks and talks but he's in his own world and can't carry on a conversation.. so unless this is how you want to become.. i would rethink some things

cut the booze and other prescription pills, especially if they are not prescribed to you. take your zoloft at night, it will help you sleep better. i've never liked all those energy drinks, i.e. redbull, rockstar...they give me the jitters. also cut down on the caffiene

zoloft is bad, my sister had a schizo attack when her doctor put her on it, it may actually be making your social problem worse.
