Currently, I have a two line phone plugged into a telephone jack that is wired as follows:
Top left: orange
Bottom left: white/green
Top right: white/orange
Bottom right: green
What changes would I have to make so that the first and 2nd lines are switched?
Thank you in advance.

I tried changing the orange and white/green as well as the white/orange and green at the same time.
The lines appear to work and ring correctly but there is a bit of buzz (or humm) on both lines.

This is not standard wiring for phone lines with 4 twisted pairs or what is called cat5 or cat5e

Usually:
line 1 is blue/blue-white
line 2 is orange/orange-white
line 3 is green/green-white
line 4 is brown/brown white

on a standard 2 line plate/plug you have 4 colors (some new plates don't have colored wires but they have small letters representing these colors)
line 1 is red (connected to blue) and Green (connected to blue-white)
line 2 is yellow (connected to orange) and Black (connected to orange-white)

So the wiring you described looks like they used orange for line 1 and green for line 2. Swapping solid for solid and stripe for stripe should work. Sometimes if a pair of wires goes bad a phone guy will use another pair hence the wrong colors being used. I have seen the phone company reverse colors just to mess with outside contractors and other contractors trying to corner customers.

ok, interpreting your question, and scratching my head attempting to understand why there is even a question right here... once you've 2 strains of lively service, and both actually one of your dial tones are on all jacks in case you disconnect the phone service for #2 line, then all will be high quality... in case you disconnect the phone service for line #a million, then you would pick to apply 2 line phones, to get perfect of entry to the dial tone on-line 2, or change the wiring on the NID... once you've separate jacks for line a million and line 2, then you would pick to connect the wiring for the line that you're disconnecting to the line that you're protecting on the NID...
