You must always interpret Scripture in the context of the message of the Gospel. Everything preceding the revelation of God in the person of Jesus Christ becoming a man and dying on a cross for the sins of those who have so grievously rebelled against Him was preparatory. After Jesus Christ rose from the dead, He appeared to the apostles and said "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." THEN HE OPENED THEIR MINDS TO UNDERSTAND THE SCRIPTURES" (Luke 24:44,45) A comparative reading in John 20:21 shows this to be the same instance where Jesus breathed on the apostles and said "Receive the Holy Spirit" - it was at this time they became born again.
Read the Gospels, Read the Epistles which were written to believers - especially Romans which gives you the foundational teaching needed to understand the rest of the Epistles. Then read Acts, Revelation, the Psalms and Genesis - and you will come into the understanding of it all - BUT NEVER FORGET THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS.

You don't get to chose. The Bible is an all or nothing book. So many people have misunderstood why Christ came, and all of the things that he accomplished. Christ fulfilled prophecy, but he did not do away with the law. Christ came and set the standard, and opened up new doors for ALL mankind. Realize that without Christ no one outside of the Jewish/Israel religion would be going to Heaven. People continually use scripture to twist people, or force them into legalistic practices. You need to read your Bible and pray. Seek God's guidance He will open your eyes to the world and His word. The Bible says to seek God diligently. Do this and you will know. All of Gods word applies, but only he can tell you how to live it.

OK let me see the first thing you have to believe that Jesus is the Son of God.And that God sent His only Son to suffer death. So that we *may*Be saved..Believing will save you the Bible is a guide for you in times of trouble and need.If you read it. It will teach you what to do in any case of your life...Most don't learn that the easy way..They use it as a last resort..And some call own God be cause that is their last resort....But you see the bible will teach you that why some don't get nothing done is because they talk directly to God and if you read the Bible it teaches you know one comes to me God but My Son and those that call own God has to pray to Jesus and Jesus will take it to Our father God.Our needs and prayers...So I would not ignore none of it...And to be as close to God and His Son Jesus you have to live as close as you can to the 10 commandments God bless you through your learning may the Lord bless you with knowledge as you read His words...Ask the Lord before you read the Bible each time to allow you to understand all that you read...God bless the U.S.A. and all

Read the whole Bible. If you're really seriously trying to figure out what the Bible says and means just read it with an open mind, and figure out what God's telling you. Christians aren't perfect. They can't possibly do everything right. I know I don't. If something seems wrong to you, don't do it. Pray about it.

Get real with the Lord, by repenting, asking Him to come into your life, then He will show you where to go to learn about the Bible, the word of God says, how can they hear without a preacher, and how can he preach accept he is sent, that means sent by the Lord.
"Hope you fine the right way"

You are not supposed to live out the Bible novel. You are supposed to learn from the Bible. And then apply what you learned to your daily life, see what works and doesn't work.
There is only one theme to the Bible:
Harmony is harmony.
Disharmony is the only sin against God.

God says that "ALL Scripture is from him and is useful for training in righteousness" (2 Tim 3:16).
Basically, anything in Acts through Revelation is directly applicable to the Christian today. Everything else (OT and gospels) is useful to see God's character, His promises, His covenants, how he delt with Israel, the prophesies for Jesus Christ (birth, life, death, resurrection), prophesies for His coming kingdom, etc.
Don't ignore any of it. But understand the context of all of it.

The New Testament. The Old Testament, though, provides a lot of context if you want to be more academic about your beliefs, but the New Testament is really what Christians should "live by" as you put it.

you take what ever conveniently fits your situation and live by that. whatever you do not thinks works for you, you ignore. The cool thing is, you can decide to change what is relevant and irrelevant at any time.

You live by the bits that make sense. The ones that are horrible (like stoning rebellious children to death, or killing animals that have been buggered by someone) you chuck out.
STILL, all morality comes from the bible. Even though you are clearly using common sense to determine which bits of the bible to chuck. Kewl how that works huh?
