My finace and I got engaged in October. We've been dating for 6.5 years. We are planning on getting married 5-9-09 because I still have 2 years of nursing school left. When would be a resonable time to start planning? Thank you!

We started planning a little over 2 years, but that's because we started a savings account. You really can't book anything because a lot of vendors do not book that far ahead, maybe a year and the popular ones a year and a half. You can start planning with simple things:
-such as the budget
-the type of wedding you want - Church, Civil, small, large, etc
-religious or not - then you will sometimes have requirements or counseling to do
-the venue you want - banquet hall, ballroom, garden, museum
-bridal party - if you will have friends participate, only 2 from each of you or your entire group of friends but dont tell them yet
-location of wedding - close to home or destination
*start with the small stuff and just have ideas ready

It is too early for wedding colors, her dress, your suit (you might change your mind)

It depends on how big you the reception party will be. Most halls book up a year or even two years in advance, depends on the place.
The number 1 thing is the place the ceremony is going to take place in. They book up in the same amount of time also. It's never too early to book a church or hall so keep that in mind. The two biggest places I would work on then the rest you can planning a year in advance.

you can always book the place and the church now - that's always the hardest, you will have your pick of the litter. As for all the crappy and annoying details... start getting ideas during the holidays and implement them come New Year '09. You should get married 9 - 9 - 09 that's even funner, lol.

i dont think it is, a lot of people begin planning their wedding more then a year in advance (id say its the more responsible thing to do). Believe me there are so many details that come with planning a wedding that a lot of women get overwhelmed, but planning it a while in advance will help you take it all nice and slow and prevent a lot of stress! I would also advise hiring a wedding planner, they usually help you save money and they also take care of a lot of things for you!

Wedding vendors book a year in advance. If you are not getting married until May 09 , you still have plenty of time.retainer fees to hold dates are nonrefundable and they require half down, I suggest waiting & just save the money.

Oh, my gosh, you are more patient than I would ever be - both to be going out so long, and now to have to wait so long for the wedding!
Depending on what type of city or community you live in, you need at least a year to book the church, reception site and caterer.

Making plans only on paper until about 6 months before might be a good idea. Booking anything earlier than that might lead to re-booking because you change your mind. Wow, you should have a great wedding.

I don't think it is ever too early (unless its like 20 years). start thinking about what you want now. write it down. if you see amazingly good deals on things you want then have a specific place you put it all. but don't forget the things you have already bought that would suck.
