Are there any free sites I can do background checks at?

Depends on who you are wanting to run a check on.

I suggest checking out the site listed in resources for tips on which ones are free and how to get them. I think it also has a list of pay sites with descriptions.

The sites listed by bearcatz, the first one is a pay site and the second one only tells you what part of the country their social is registered to.
