It is so creepy and it has happened to me and many people in my family (mom, uncle and brother) Sometimes I can feel myself falling asleep but its really creepy and I can't stop it. The dreams are oddly disturbing and I can't wake myself up. I'm aware that I'm dreaming but I can't scream, move, anything and I can't wake up. When this happens, my husband can hear me wimpering and he has to shake me really hard for me to wake up and snap out of it. This doesn't happen all the time but it terrifies me when I can feel myself falling ito one of these dream states.

Its sort of like I'm semi-conscious or something like a coma, Has anyone else experienced this? What can be done about it?

Its not a nightmare. It is completely different.

Yes once I had the same feeling too. I cant move turn or scream, but I think I am partially woke up and not fully, If I hardly try to lift my hand hand will be raised but I will see that Its lying on same position. Bad and frightening feeling. But I had overcame it.
One day to the climax I had a strange feeling when I slept alone (day time because I do night study till 5 in the morning) upstairs room, my mom used to wake me up when the food is ready. I heared my mom shouting near the door to open it, I cant wake up but I want to get up, I cant move a bit. I felt frightened, longed someone to shake me and let me wake up, but the door is locked. Atlast after a struggle I felt I have waked up somehow and ran out of the door and reached the steps, in a fraction of time. But my mom was not there but I didint opened the door, I turned and saw the door is closed,
confused I think how could this be possible, I returned and saw inside the room I was sleeping in the same position, terrible killing feeling. After that when I wake up and ran downstairs, my mom said she didint come upstairs at all. All I felt is I got a dream, still it is a miracle. After that I never slept in that room.
My father said that, It is possible when you go to sleep hungry or with any insecure feeling. My brother said once he also had it.

To over come it go to bed with satisfied stomach, not hungry, calm your mind with good thoughts, think positively, If you have any problem with your beloveds even undiscussable one discuss it and get rid of the insecure feeling. Change your bed room, meditate 10 min before bed, Its better to have one glass of milk before sleeping. Completely get rid of day sleep/nap. Go to bed late and wake up in the morning. Atlast believe you can get rid of it. Surely you will Good luck.

Sleep paralysis. Scary sometimes, but it's harmless.

More common in children and young adults. Less common in older adults.

To reduce the occurences, sleep in a cool room. Avoid mid-afternoon naps. Get regular sleep. Avoid eating too much before going to bed.

I have had strange dreams while I am asleep. Your stuck in the dream, and cant get out? Well if I have a dream, and its on a work day, I just think I have to get up and get going and I usually wake up.

If you can master being in this state (often called or confused with "out of body experience") you are very talented and if you can harness this state, it's the doorway to deep meditation and firguring out alot of metaphysical phenomena.

i used to get that sometimes
a bit of self-control and concentration (and no panic) will allow you to exit the dream.
thinking of coming back to the ground usually helps me exiting, but do whatever makes sense for you
