Take some alcohol and put it on a paper towel then rub it until the sprits off. I don't really understand what's on your flat iron but that's what some people tell me to clean it with.

They do make cleaner for Flat/ Curling Irons. You can find such a solution at a Beauty Supply. I use good ol' 409.

Depending on the type of flat iron: If it is oldschool real iron, while cold (unplugged) you can use steelwool. If Newschool with silicon cover or aluminum you can use (also unplugged) "green" nylon scrubbing pads available at almost any Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target or local grocery.

baking soda with a little water to make it a paste works well on mine. At beauty supply shops you can also find cleaners for your flat iron or curling iron.

I've used rubbing alcohol on mine. Make sure they are cool and unplugged, of course.
