My mom thinks that she might be. She is about 7 years old and is the "queen" of our house. When we had the bowl when you need to keep filling it up she would eat alot really fast then puke it up sometimes it the dish while eating. I think she started this when we got my other Cat a few years ago. Now that we have the Food dispencer she still does this but not as often. Does she have a problem?? Sometimes it looks like she is making herself puke. Should we bring her to the vet??

What Seattle said, and have a vet check her teeth. Cats get a build up of plaque and they do break teeth and get cavities. This can make it hard to chew food and they swallow it in larger pieces. That can make them throw up. Have her teeth checked and see if they don't need a good cleaning, especially if she is 7 years old.

Try feeding the cats in two different rooms. Make sure the cats understand that they have separate bowls. Cats worry about getting their share. Keep dry food available all day. That way, your cat won't feel like she has to eat quickly before all the food disappears. Once she sees that you keep the dry food available all the time, she might slow down.
Also, you might try a different food brand. I have a cat who throws up pretty often, but since I switched her food brand, she doesn't vomit as often. Over the years, and after owning a lot of cats, I've noticed that the females seem to vomit more than the males in general. Or, cats with longer, thicker fur-- hairballs!
But since your cat started this when you introduced another cat, she might be trying to eat too quickly. I don't think cats know what Bulimia is.
Still, if you haven't taken her to the vet. recently, you should take her for a check-up and to update her shots. While you're there, mention the problem to the vet.
Also, how are your cat's teeth? Maybe she's having difficulty chewing, and she's choking. I had a cat with a jaw problem, and he couldn't chew correctly.
Hope this helps.

I have a cat that does this too. My vet told me that since my cat was a stray, she eats fast because she still thinks she may have to fight others for her food. (and now knowing when her next meal will be) She's normally a smart cat, but she has done this for the 4 years I have had her, so being a stray must have really done a lot to her psyche. (this cat is also "queen" of the 3 cats I have too)

What was suggested to me was 2 things. One was to feed smaller portions throughout the day. Your cat will act like you are starving her for at least a few weeks. If you feed her the same amount as now, just in smaller portions she will be fine. The other option is to put a golf ball in the food dish. What this does is forces her to eat around the ball and causes her to eat slower. Your cat is regurgitating her food because her tummy cant handle that much all at once.

My cat still does this once a week or so, but since she used to puke ALL of the time, I consider the advice to work. :)

This question came up a few days ago and somone suggested (with canned food) putting it on a plate and mashing it into a thin layer spread all over the plate. The cat can't gobble if it has to eat this way. I also agree with the suggestion to feed it away from any other pets as well so it doesn't have a perception that it's meal is threatened.
I used to have a dog that would eat, then puke so she could eat it again. I did discuss it with my vet, the dog was healthy, she was just a pig so when she ran out of food....
If the cat has a good coat, clear eyes, normal stools, plays and seems happy, I'd work on getting her to not gorge and see how it goes. Animals are just weird sometimes.
Best wishes!

Hi there...she possibly could be gorging down her food too quickly which some cats will do and then become sick. Sometimes by experimenting with feeding a little amount at a time can help determine if this is the case. If she's still doing it after eating even a small amount there may be something more serious and would require a visit to the vet.

[edit] if there is another cat she shares her meal with she may be eating quickly to compete for the food. Perhaps try feeding her separately from the other cat to see if this would help slow her down from eating her share too quickly.

She is probably just eating too fast and making herself puke. I would just call your vet and ask. I don't think it sounds terribly dangerous, but if it is enough to make you worried contact the vet.

Have you tried her on food for cats with digstive problems? Some cats' systems try and digest the food too quickly and cant so they bring it all up again.

If this is a constant problem, I advise you to please bring her to your vet. Your cat is not getting the proper nutrition if it keeps throwing up its food.
