On your W-4, you probably can claim at least 4. However, I suggest using the worksheet on the back of the W-4, or going to the IRS link I listed below. Depending on your income, you may get EITC, Child Tax Credit, and other credits that will lower your tax liability....maybe all the way to zero. In fact, you may actually not only owe no taxes at all, but you may get a refund. Since you didn't tell us your expected income, I can't say for sure. If you went back to work at Walmart as a cashier, that is much different than going back to work at Walmart as a Pharmacist.

As far as Head of Household, you could claim this if you are paying for over half the costs of where you live (rent, mortgage, bills, food) for you and your child. If you live with a parent who pays for most of everything, you should file as single.

Claim 2. also u can get the credit for head of household in most cases. There are tax credits you may qualify for on both your state and federal returns. If you cant follow the instructions for claiming, then take your taxes to a paid preparer, such as H R Block. You'll more than make up for their fees, if they can get the tax credits for you.

If you want a nice refund at tax time then claim 0 this means you have less money each week and yes uncle sam gets interest from your money .If you can budget for less each paycheck this is the best way to go .If you want a slightly bigger paycheck then claim 2 but your refund will not be as large ..I myself claim married and 0 I also have extra money taken out each pay period this way I know I will get a refund and personally I don't care if uncle sam gets my interest this is a sure way for me to have a refund.

On your W4 at work, claim 2, one for you, one for your child. Then when you file your tax return, claim Head of Household. Also keep good records on what you pay for child care while you are working.

I always claimed: me, my child, and head of household = 3
Always worked for me.... I never owed at the end of the year. Don't forget to keep receipts for your childcare.

1 for you, one for the child, then figure if you should take another if you are paying mortgage interest, real estate taxes and state income taxes in sufficient amount to equal another exemption.
