John Calvin (July 10, 1509 – May 27, 1564) was a French Protestant theologian during the Protestant Reformation and was a central developer of the system of Christian theology called Calvinism or Reformed theology. In Geneva, he rejected Papal authority, established a new scheme of civic and ecclesiastical governance, and created a central hub from which Reformed theology was propagated. He is renowned for his teachings and writings. The largest denomination to spring from his theology is the Presbyterians.

The answer above is referring to John Wesley, who founded the Methodist church in the late 18th century.

He was an iconoclast, which means he destroyed icons. He altered church architecture so as to make houses of worship simple white boxes with spires on top. He changed theology, so as to redefine the sacraments: no longer were they outward and visible signs of an inward and invisible grace; they were mere symbols which he called ordinances. These are communion and baptism. He forced the citizens of Geneva into believing in his form of Christianity and was quite legalistic. The TULIP modle of doctrine is known as classic Calvanism.
