How do you add black and white to your pictures?

Ive always wanted to know how you do this weither your using paint or photoshop.

Open photo shop.
click on "insert"
click on "import"
right click on picture.
go to bottom of menu
and click on "photo tools"
select photo effects tab and click
select black and white.
as you close out, save photo under
a new name so you don't lose
your original copy.

If you mean how to convert pics to black and white, then:

In Photoshop 7, open the pic, then click Image/Mode.

Then choose Grayscale. The system will ask if you want to discard Color, click Yes.

The pic will now be in "black and white", which is really lots of shades of gray.

I like using the gradient map in Photoshop — create a black to white gradient and it allows you contrast control.
