You need to listen to what I have to say, I have experience in this area. Go to my favorite place; Pet Smart, and look at what they have to offer regarding kitten formulas, they have the best selection, they also have kitten food for when you decide to wean him off of the formula. Don't introduce Catnip until he reaches 6 or 7 months. The best toys are the tiny mice; the real looking ones, not the knitted ones. And make sure he has a nice warm place to sleep.

In my opinion, nutro is the best thing you can give your pet. Alot of the brands you will find out there these days use nasty bi-products and corn as a base. This is no good. Try soaking it in water until it's softened. At six weeks, your kitten should be completely weaned from the mother. In a few more, you can start the transition to dry food :)

at 6 weeks your kitten is old enough to be weened and does not need milk (not to mention that milk will hive her diarrhea). Royal Canin has a baby kitten dry food that works well as a transition for such young kittens and then she will graduate to a regular kitten food. If the dry food is too hard for her to eat dampen it with a little water- NOT milk. you can also try mixing some canned food in with it to help but a dry food is better for her teeth and also the litter box :)... Have fun with your new kitty- they're a blast!

A Kitten formula milk that you can get at petco and petsmart. You should still leave or give her small amounts of hard/and or soft food. A kitten forumla hard food would be best to start with then blend the adult one as she gets older. Try to stay with the same brand as she grows older.

Food just made for kittens. All good brands will have a kitten formula. I gave mine what the shelter recomeded.Diamond brand. Also know what is in the food so they are getting what they need and not just a bunch of fillers.

without knowing what country you are in - its hard to name brands however there are some basic rules that always apply

first CHICKEN, LAMB, and TURKEY are the gentlest on the cats tummies.. and cats are true carnivours they need meat as the #1 ingredient - all grocery store and Wal Mart foods are crap putting corn or some other cheap filler as #1 ingredient - so in effect the food is cheaper BUT your cat/ kitten needs to eat a lot more to get the nutrition.. also it will poop more and have more over all health problems becuase of eating so much junk

by-products are beaks feet and feathers and should always be avoided

fish is high in calcuim and therefore should be avoided because this is linked to urinary tract problems (ALSO NEVER give milk.. cats are lactose intollerant)

OK - dry KITTEN food needs to be available ALL the time.. (switch to adult when you get her spayed unless she is thin - adult food is cheaper)
at 6 weeks she needs a teaspoon of canned mush 4 times a day.. cut down to 1 time a day by the time she is 6 months.. then you can eliminate or continue as you wish... the cans tell you to feed ALOT more than is actually good for the kitten...

the better foods are ONLY sold in pet supply stores - but not all the food they sell is good - for example Science Diet is over priced crap ( they PAID for vet endorsement but the ingredients are horrid.. vets often receive little or NO training on ingredients or food brands)
IAMS used to be good until bought out by Proctor and Gamble (yes the company notorios for cruel animal testing) who dumbed the food down considerably
Nutro Natural Choice is OK but not great.. Max is their low end.. the problem is they do not use Human Grade Ingredients...... so read the lables for yourself

I love Wellness canned food for kittens. There is also a dry food made by Royal Canin that is called their baby cat formula. It is specially formulated for kittens up to four months old.

Remember, cats need both wet and dry. A dry food only diet can lead to all kinds of urinary tract problems. Don't believe me or the other posters here. Ask your vet. Dry food is nice and neat for people, but cats just can't possibly drink enough water to keep up with the demands it puts on their bodies.

the best kind of food for your kitten is kitten food. check with your vet on what they would reccommend. iams is a great brand. purina is another really good one. you can always mix the dry and canned together. just make sure you feed her kitten food until she is about a year old. and don't forget to get her feces checked for parasites and use frontline for flea prevention.

It might be helpful to you to go to Dr. Jean Hovfe's website at www.littlebigcat.com and read some of her articles on cat diet. Titles include "Why Cats Need Canned Food", "Selecting a Good Commercial Pet Food", "What Cats Should Eat". Those articles are towards the end of about sixty articles on cat diseases, vaccinations, diet, behavioral issues, etc.
