I have to ask why is there so many people who have asked about when God created earth in 7 (OR 6 I forget) days they say 6 days could have been 6 million years to God. Well by their logic moses's 40 days and 40 nights must have been even longer! I mean its the same genisis chapter. so i have to ask why are people so critical of the bible

because the human mind is petty. they keep talking about such trivialities [it may be big for some others]. they dont see the big picture that religion is to unite us and we shld work towards it. he is God and if he takes 6 days, 6 million years so what! the point is the earth is already here, we are here, lets not waste time arguing till the cows come home and still dont get any answer. when we die, we meet God, ask him then!

The Bible also says that one day is like a thousand years to God. God has no time. He created the universe in a large amount of time even though He could have done it in six 24-hour days if He wanted, He's that powerful. But with our scientists stating that the earth is 4 billions years old and dinosaurs lived 4-26 millions years ago, we do know that the earth is older than 6000 years. We'll never know until God tells us for sure, but I tend to think that He started creating it at least a million years ago. Scientists are human and can error and have been known to error before. I trust God's words more than a man's.

The 40 days and nights that Moses was up on Mt. Sinai was actually 40 days and nights. And he went up the mountain twice. 40 is used a lot in the Bible - the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years, Jesus was in the desert praying for 40 days, the plaques done upon Pharoah took a total of 40 days and nights, etc. So 40 is a significant number.

we're not being critical....its true that the 7 days (6 spent creating and the 7th was rest) could be a longer period of time, but that is just speculating...and its a good point that the 40 days and 40 nights would be a really long time too. But thats not the point! you're missing the entire story line with doubt and questions.

Actually God did it in six days, and that included the creation of humans, and it was only a few weeks later he regretted ever having created humans.

Then Moses came along and God got his hopes up, but Moses was another big disappointment, and to make matters worse he was a queer, which disgusted God really bad.

By now you probably wonder where God is and why he doesn't do anything. He is long gone and he detests the entire human race; and when the Sun boils over and consumes the Earth in ten billion years it won't be too soon for him. Does that answer your question?

Fundamentalist Christians who believe that the bible is without error will often tell you that the earth is about 6000 years old, because that's how the numbers pan out in the bible. They have to believe that, because their faith in God hinges on *every single word* of the bible to be factual.

I, and many other Christians, see Genesis for what it is. It's poetry written about the heart of God. It explains some Jewish traditions in the form of myth. It's not intended to be a factual accounting of what exactly happened each day since the beginning of creation. Those that think it is either do not read it carefully or are able to transcend logic with inordinate amounts of faith.

It is written in Genesis that the sun, moon & stars were created the 4th day. In Peter who refered back to Genesis at times wrote that to God a day is like a 1000 yrs and a 1000 yrs like a day.

Also Adam & Eve died spiritually when they rebelled against God, but didn't die physically till nearly 1000 yrs old.

We need God to help us read the bible. If not, then we don't understand some things. When we have a difficult time understanding something, just ask God in prayer (not doubting) & God gives wisdom liberally.

People seem to be critical of things they don't really understand or don't believe in. Ask a small child if they believe in the tooth fairy and they say yes, why, because they believe. Ask a 10 or 11 year old and they scoff, why, they don't believe any more. You either believe in the Bible or you don't. You can't pick one verse and not believe another. It was all divinely written. God's time is God's time we just have to trust Him.

Leaps of faith are the same thing as driving a dirt road for the first time and not being able to see the road ahead even tho the road is on a map and that map was created by God. Their faith isn't enough to trust.

Read the last chapter. As long as Christianity, as well as several of the other "ultimate truths", have as their end and gleefully sought after goal, the END OF THE WORLD, and as long as they believe that their rights are being violated if they are denied the opportunity to use the coercive power of the state to shove their god down every ones throat, you will have to put up with us being in your face. Why should we abandon a forum where we can let you know that you will not be allowed to carry out the silly "End Times" rubbish that you seem to forget would include the rest of us.

Cos by interpreting it literally you are insulting the men who wrote it. The bible is a quaint ancient explanation for the world as seen by one race. Since it was written enormous amounts of information about nature has been amassed and disseminated world wide giving us a better understanding of the world and how life came to be.
