The general recommendation used to be to give an antidepressant four full weeks to reach a noticeable lifting of depression, while expecting mostly the side effects the first couple of weeks, which will gradually lessen.
Recently, the time limit has been extended to six weeks based on recent studies. Many psychiatrists are now asking patients to give anti-depressants up to six full weeks before switching.
As a side note on Paxil, there was an attempted class action lawsuit against the manufacturer a while back because this particular drug tends to be one of the worst as far as withdrawal effects, and a withdrawal syndrome has been noted with it that includes symptoms like irritability, electric shock-like sensations, minor sensory distortions, etc, that might last for up to a few months if the drug is quit abruptly. Therefore, if you've been on Paxil for any length of time it's especially important with this drug to gradually taper-off the dosage rather than quitting cold turkey.
Also, it's my understanding that just recently birth defects have been associated with Paxil use and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should refrain from using this particular antidepressant. New warnings are going to be put on the labelling for this drug that your doctor might not know about yet.
Paxil, although historically one of the most popular SSRI anti-depressants, is also one of the most "dirty" of them, given the side effects, birth defects, withdrawal syndrome.
You should also note that only 2/3 -- or perhaps less according to some researchers -- actually have a true response to antidepressants, and this is often only after trying more than one.

With the power of anecdotal evidence, here is your answer: you will probably feel better within 1 day or 32 hours.
Paxil can't be skipped like that. It is very dangerous to do so. Paxil, in fact, is a very dangerous drug. The truth is just now coming out about this drug. I've been on for 12 years, and am on a slow taper to remove it from my system. You can learn about the problems with paxil and get advice quite easily at the site below. I urge you not to ignore it.

Most anti-depressants/anti-anxiety medications take up to a few weeks for you to start feeling results. As far at the side effects, give it a couple more weeks. If you still feel ill, you need to consult your physician. Perhaps Paxil is not the right medication for you and another anti-depressant needs to be considered.

It takes several weeks for paxil to start working fully. you won't notice any improvements anytime soon, and you cant be skipping doses and take it only when you feel sad. It's not a quick fix!

.. Paxil will take over a MONTH to start actually working.
.. if you need something more immediate .. try Clorazapam or some other anti-anxiety pills.
.. or smoke some weed.

It varies with each individual, however, it generally takes a month before your brain experiences a chemical balance.

you must keep the same level of that drug in your system on a constant basis in order for it to be 100% effective. I would say maybe an hour. Please don't skip them again as it only makes things worse next time.
