Personally, not really. But in the medical profession--you are just the same as the last hundred and just the same as the next hundred. Their mind is not on you sexually but medically. (hopefully) There are a few cases otherwise.

as a future physician, i can say from the physicians point of view that it doesn't make difference if the patient and doc are of the opposite gender, as we keep coming across all types of people of both sexes

Yes. I have had four babies, all of whom were delivered by men. They aren't looking at you in a sexual way. If they do, they aren't professionals and you should switch if they make you uncomfortable.
