I am increasingly finding faults with my looks, and avoid looking at the bathroom mirror with lights on (just comb and shave with the dim light from outside the bathroom flowing in), avoid events where I will have my photo taken up close, avoid changing careers because of my looks and so on. I am very intelligent based on my boss and based on my performances in standardized tests (I am usually in the 99th percentile). However, BDD is messing up my life and I don't date due to self hatred -- I am otherwise confident and funny and people enjoy my company.

I would appreciate anyone willing to share a story or experience or advice in overcoming BDD.

BDD is extremely hard to overcome. I have had BDD for a year or two now, and started getting treatment for the disorder around 5 months ago. I haven't gotten much better, but the progress is apparent to many people.
I am currently on Zoloft and I attend therapy sessions once a week.
BDD is a very gut wrenching experience, and I feel your pain. I hope you are able to overcome this terrible disorder. :)

I have body dysmorphic disorder too :(

Some things I hate about myself:

-My ears are too big
-My eyes are too small
-My nose is just...weird
-I've had acne since forever
-My face is too long
-My shoulders are too wide

Ok, basically my list goes on forever. However, I am pretty smart too. I just get depressed alot.

So no, I havn't overcome my body dysmorphic disorder yet. I might get surgery in the future, I don't know.

Someone give me a hug.

If you are confident and funny and people enjoy your company, what the heck are you worried about?? Who cares what ya look like as long as you do shave and take a shower, wear clean clothes and brush your hair every now and then??
