I know she's very uncomfortable but I can't get to a vet for a couple of days. Her ears are very red and it they seem to hurt or itch. I've been giving her aspirin and Benadryl (because she has a lot of allergies that aggravate her already inflamed ears). Is there anything I can do to make her comfortable until I can get her professional help?

She has short hair and her ears aren't long like a hound' ears, and I'm kind of reluctant to try human remedies (other than the aspirin and Benadryl, which my vet recommended for allergy flare-ups).

I also am very careful about her food and any of her other allergens, though it's possible that mold or grass could have made her flare up and the cold weather worsened it.

I use the homeopathic remedy Belladonna. Just feed a fewof the tablets to her and put one in her water.

First of all do not use alcohol or anything in her ears that may burn or sting! She will hate you for it and you will have a terrible time getting her to let you clean them out. With that said, go to the pet store and get one of the ear cleansing products for dogs. These products are specially formulated to cleanse and clean the ear gently without stinging or burning. Have plenty of cotton balls on hand because you will need them if her ears are really infected. Follow the instructions on the bottle and gently clean out her ears. You will need to do this a couple of times a day at first. She will probably have lots of brownish waxy stuff in ears. Just be very gentle. If her ears are really swollen you will only be able to work around the outside area as far as the cotton balls are concerned. Be careful and gentle as you do not want to hurt her or each time you have to do it she will run and hide or worse yet bite!!
I have a cocker and an english springer spaniel. They both have had ear problems for time to time. Those long furry ears are beautiful but sure cause problems with air circulation.
I don't know how much good the aspirin is doing but the benadryl can't hurt as long as you are giving her the proper dosage for her weight.
Have you considered changing her food? You might want to talk to your vet about that. Some dogs have terrible food allergies to beef and chicken. I feed all my dogs a lamb meal and rice food as lamb is suppose to be hypoallgenic.
There is one more thing that I would recommend. I don't know what kind of dog breed you have but if she has long ears and long hair on them (like a cocker) you can take a clothes pin and clip the hairy ends of her hair together above her head so that her ears can get air. You can do this a couple of times a day for as long as she will tollerate it and that may help her ears breath and also cool them down a bit as well...
Hope she gets better soon...

You're gonna think I'm nuts, but.... clean her ears out with a warm wash rag.... let them dry and with your finger or 2 Q-tips held together, spread some Monistat ointment in her ear.

Yeast is a major culprit (not the only one though) of ear infections with dogs.

I've had that with one of my dogs too. The breeder (who does show dogs herself) recommended that I use alcohol in her ear. I wouldn't give aspirin, only because I'm not sure of that in dogs, you can give vitamin C to reduce the inflammation, and put in a teaspoon of rubbing alcohol. That should help until you can get to the vet. But I'd tell the vet, they should get you in asap so it doesn't turn into a worse infection...hope she feels better, and you too.

Just leave it alone & try to stop scratching. You can use an e-collar to help control it. If you clean ears or put stuff in them, you are messing up the sample the vet needs to diagnose problem. It will only be less than a day. It is possible for you to make the problem worse.

Maybe a little vinegar and alcohol in the ear to ease the pain. The Alcohol cleans the infection and the vinegar kills the bacteria. I know it works on my kid when she gets ear infections afterwards I put a drop of olive oil and massage just below the ear canal behind the ear.

well, i'm not really sure. all i know is that you should make sure the ear is clean. you should also keep it warm. like take a hot water bottle or one of those bags that you put in the microwave to get warm and put it on her ear. it will help abit. just make sure its warm and not too hot.
