To think logically and recognize the truth... the simple fact is that with the internet and an illogical uninformed person I can prove anything true.... and remember this about basic logic... if I can get you to believe a lie... I can prove anything true...

I think it's most important that someone learn to "love" learning...to be curious, to want to learn about things.

It's not as important to know how to do "rote" things given the computer and internet, but you do need to learn about history, english, economics, math, science, politics, the arts, etc.

Hopefully today's children will grow up to make a real, positive contribution to the world and society.

On a separate note, I think it's vital that parents are involved in their children's education. Advocate for them. Make sure they are keeping up, that they are doing their work. It's their "job" when they're young. Education is so important to what they'll be able to contribute later on in life. And earn, of course.

I would add that it's important that children/adolescent/young adults learn to be polite and respectful and to learn how to manage their emotions and deal with people, and problem-solve for themselves.

Improvements in Maths and English ought to be emphasised more. The education system needs to be reformed in order to catch up to the high standards kids from other parts of the world are attaining.(I believe Blair has announced reforms into the A level system) An awareness of current events is also important and more needs to be done to improve the three R's.

As parents, you're the most important first step in your children's journey into the wonderful world of reading. It is up to you to create the most supportive environment that turns your child on to reading - such as reading aloud to them often during the day and before bedtime, and placing age appropriate books for children around the house, so that the child will have access to plenty of books. Reading often to your child will help develop their interest in books and stories, and soon they will want to read stories on their own.

Don't think so much it's something the children need to learn. A lot of parents need to be more aware of the effect of their negativity on their children. Self-esteem is a very precarious thing and it doesn't take a lot to destroy it in a child.

No one owes you anything. With that said, don't be a dick to other people. Be generous but not to the point of enabling. Learn to roll with the inevitable sh** life throws at you and don't cry about every little thing. Be strong, be nice, and learn to tell when you're getting played.

Success is meaningless. Do any kids you have the favour of teaching them how to be happy. The two can go hand in hand but emphasizing success over true contentment leads to expensive therapy bills and jerry springer.

The most important thing to learn is respect for others. Without this everything else is meaningless.

Whatever time era, children should know that it's important to be true to themselves, do what "they" want to do with their life, not what someone else wants them to do, and whatever "that" something "is," do their very best. And if they find it wasn't what they thought it would be, try something else until they find that special something they "are" good at and comfortable with. I always thought my daughter was so graceful when she took ballet lessons, and she is a college professor. I never "told" her to become anything other that what "she" wanted, so she did. She's still very graceful...smart, but graceful.
