And someone says, "Hang on, I think we are in for a bump"? And they manage to land in a small clearing and the pilot gets his tools out and they fix it there and then and sponge fuel and fly off again?

Hi >
Well, I was taught to fly in an ancient Cessna 152, two seaIt jobby.
It packed up one morning, so I parked it in the corner of a feild.
No way was it taking off properly, so we took the wings off, and put it all on a trailer. Not cheap.
I like stories about getting the things off the deck again, but it really belongs to films.
Bob.

Woolly hat and no name - just a few errors - the Tiger Moth had an inverted inline engine with no addition help - not a radial. There is only one flying Lancaster at the moment - the Battle of Battle Flight - not two. Good try though.

Those small aircraft are designed to glide efficiently. Unless they are out of fuel a solution can usually be found to fix the problem as most aircraft have 2 of everything for safety

yes, ive flown in something like it, its a rush, and believe me, they dont weigh much, and they can land in teh length of a cricket pitch 22 yards... and yes its very scary teh first time...

but provided you can land, its no dofferent to filling up your car... you do have an avantage in that you can get out and push... contrary to what you may have seen in tom and jerry cartoons, or was it donald duck... but air brakes dont work like that...

aeroplanes are a little like bikes, yes, some folks like to dress em up and look all fancy.. i prefer to gas flow the heads and chuck in a supercharger..those old single engined tiger moths.. flying by the seat of your pants never got any better. and they sounded nice... mmmmmm radial engines...

Psst, anyone want to hear 4 merlins on one of the last two flying lancaster bombers... it came home to roost at coventry for refit, and being the sad old sod that i am, i photographed it, and did an MP3 of it overflying me three times, at a 150 feet..oh yes it went over my head... sounds better than any jet.

and my wife and i watched teh titanic, she saw a poigniant love story..all i saw were teh size of the conrods in teh engine room.

like i said...sad
