Visits, phone calls, things of that nature. Is going to visit on weekends and sometimes twice daily phone calls unusual? Visits can last for up to 8 hours and phone calls are to just check in and chat. It used to be twice weekly visits and up to 7 phone calls a day. What is the norm? Parents live 30 miles away.

It would probably depend on the age and health of your parents, and your willingness to devote as much time as possible to them.Twice daily check in phone calls and once weekly visits sound like you are a devoted adult child. Good for you!!

It depends

If you're talking about parents who are elderly and need help, then I think you should give them however much time they need and you can spare.

If we're talking about a 20-30 year old adult who's married with children and this adult leaves his family to go visit his/her healthy active 40-50 year old parents, well that's incredibly excessive. Possibly a bit disturbing too.

How much time did your parents spend raising you? I doubt if they looked at the clock or wondered if they spent enough time with you for that day.

Spend time with your parents because they are your parents, because you love and value them. Because they are your friends as well as your parents.

The elderly are to be cherished - they will be gone forever one day. Do not worry about the flowers you will put on their grave - bring them flowers now so they can appreciate them and feel your love.

Time spent with parents is time well spent - it is a time for loving and caring for all they did for you while you were growing up. But, you should never spend time with a parent out of guilt or payback. Time spent with parents enriches your life and the lives of your children - it actually does more for you than you think.

Good for you! I am always pleased when adult children remember their parents, and even though you live only 30 miles away, you are doing something that is very special (and increasingly becoming rare) nowadays.

Cherish them while they are alive -- it does no good to do that after their death. I lost my parents as a very young adult (and buried them with my siblings), and we definitely wish they had lived long enough to see us succeed in life the way we did.
