Well, you have several options, including the chemical straightening (which is called "relaxing"):
1. Temporary straightening - This involves a good straightening balm (like Mine's Smoothing Lotion or similar temporary straightening products) and a few other handy tricks with shampoo, conditioners and the right blow dryer. It can be done but it is definitely temporary until your next shampoo.
OR
2. Relaxing Hair With Chemicals - This is the least drastic chemical approach. It costs a lot more money than buying a smoothing balm or lotion and usually requires help from a stylist to guarantee good results. Yes, you can do it at home, but there are more risks. http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip814.htm
OR
3. Chemical Straightening - This involves strong chemicals and is not temporary or even simple. Because of the type of chemicals utilized it is required that an expert apply the solution.

It is best to have the relaxing process performed by a professional so that they can perform a strand test to determine the recommended strength of the relaxer that should be used. The stylist will also need to evaluate current hair texture, porosity, elasticity and the presence or absence of any hair damage. Hope this helps!

DO NOT~everyone wants the opposite you want strait hair I want curly hair we are never HAppY :) Your hair is special and is unique, be thankful for what your mom gave you. Insted of getting it chemically straighten try doing different things with your curly hair one day just style it like usual and another day make it more wavy than curly. Experimet and have fun with your hair, but DO NOT get it chemically straighten! I hope i have been help to you and enjoy!

Hi, I actually know alot about this even though I never had my hair permanentley straightened, my mom, sister, and aunt all got thier hair chemically straightened.

they all loved it so much at first, but really hated that you had to go back and have your roots straightened every couple months, (there all pretty busy). My sister actually decided to let hers grow out but It looked pretty messed up for a while so she had to straighten it at home everyday, which left alot of damage.

If your the kind of person who is willing to make the commitment, then this would be perfect for you, but if not, I would say to just get thinner layers, so it's alot easier to straighen your hair at home, just make sure to use a ceramic iron , and deep conditioner every couple weeks.

If you do it, I would first seek out a reputable salon/stylist. Not sure where you could look, I guess the internet might have listings of salon servies in your area with photos of their work or references. I'm not saying it's guarenteed that the more you pay the better your results will be, but I am not sure I would trust just any salon to do something as serious as chemical straightening

the best kind of straightener if you were to do it is the chi permanent staightener...try to find a salon in your area that does it. It's a little expensive and takes like 4 hours to get done but you don't need it too often and your hair will be super straight, you would have to just glide and iron through it a little and go

I have had several friends who have done this. But, one only one of them actually looks good. I guess it depends on your hair type. If you have thick hair, as you said, it should work pretty well. But, there are no guarantees! Beware! Sometimes, people who do chemical things to their hair have problems. Their hair can dry out and even fall out. So do what you think is right, and good luck!

My daughter has really thick hair with some natural wave and she has had her hair chemically straightened with success. Make sure that who you are going to knows what they are doing and doesn't fry your hair.

Hey Hey ! You are just talking a story of Nicole Kidman- when she was in her child hood Curls made her feel "awkward and repulsive" but to day when she wears a straight hair and Hollywood's highest priced female star. Before you smooth out your curly hair, condition with thermal protector to prevent heat damage, smooth out frizz and seal in shine.Insert a round brush at the root of a one section,Aim your blow dryer at the section while pulling hair through the brush.Pin each finished section back and go to the next.Do it with ease- and you can do it!

well if you do chemically mess with it, your hair will grow out frizzy. so you would have to keep chemically treating it. it's really bad for your hair. but straightening isn't any better. my sister got it done at a hair college, it worked and was cheaper than getting it done at a professional salon, she was burned like crazy though.

Yes if you want straight hair without it taking you so long to do it with a flat iron.
your hair will smell of the chemical for a couple of washings after, but thats normal. no way around that one. lol
