In Eastern Orthodox Iconography, The Virgin Mary is NEVER seen without Her Son. The Tradition is that St. Luke painted the first icon - The Blessed Virgin saw it and said: "Never paint me without My Son".
Only in Western Traditions do we see Mary alone.
Mostly, Madonna and Child portraits are the most common, both in East and West.

I don't think there is any difference. Jesus is a beautiful person just like his Mother from whom he gets his looks. Our Father did a great job with the Masterpiece of Mary, I say compliment him by showing her off! Jesus would agree. We honor our Mother as the Commandment requires.

When it is a work of art, there is no problem one way or another. The problem is when it serves as an object of worship. (see the 2nd commandment). We are not to baow down before any images. In that case, it is equally wrong if it represents Jesus or Mary.

If you are a catholic, you worship Mary and treat her as though she is God, AND SHE IS NOT!!!!!!
I don't have pictures of Jesus or Mary, because there were no photographs taken of them when they were here, no cameras back in those days. It is a SIN to make an image of God, so those pictures are a SIN.
