My friend took me to her church (why, because I attract people to me that are the recruiting kind) and on one of the white boards in the classrooms they had written something about redemption and the whole revelation thing- under that they had written December 12, 2012. I know that's the date the Mayans predicted incredible change in the world. But why would something like this be taught in a church? Isn't that against the whole point of Chrisianity in the first place? Or something? I wanted to kick these people in the face for how ignorant they are. (Or were until I gave them an earful about it.)

I've heard people claiming the 2012 date is in the Bible. People just get confused, they mix all their fear-based dogmas together and never bother to do any research, just accept what they are told by anyone they see as an "authority" whether that person has any knowledge or not of the subject. (The same way people listen to celebrities talking about politics.)
BTW, the date the 13th Baktun begins is 12-21-2012, not 12-12-2012 (12-12-2012 is the 12th gate). And the Mayan calendar and the world aren't ending on that date.

I thought Jesus said no one would know when the world would end except the Father. It's a mystery to me why a group of Christians would be preaching it.

The date comes from the Mayan calendar, which, incidentally, doesn't say the world will end. The calendar simply runs out them. If they were still here, they would probably start it all over again.

Even He doesn't know when all of Creation will end, so why would us humans even bother trying to figure it out? It's silly really...Remember, All of Creation will pass away, but His Word will not..We must not live our lives always in fear when All of Creation will end, because we cannot possibly know when the end will be..Instead, raise your head when the end comes and come to the Father...If you live like it's the end, and then the end doesn't come when you thought so, then you wasted your time...Live out a life of faith each and every day. Don't worry..He is forever Our Redeemer. God bless..

No one knows when that will happen. Matthew 24:36 "But of that (exact) day and hour no one knows, no, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Great point, though I do believe that when examined closely, most of the major religions of the world validate each other.
