They claimed my home went up in value 40,000.00 in one year. Then raised my property taxe 1,700.00 to pay for 3 schools they just finished building. And my children are out of school.

You need to do a couple of things. First, you need to either confirm or deny the increase in value they are sticking you with. Question 1: did you do any major improvements to the house? If so & with the comps (comparable home values) in the area the new value is justified, sorry-you have to pay the tax.

If your appraised value and comps doesn't support the higher value and you can show that, then here's what you need to do.

Contact your local State Real EstateTax Auditor, tell them you want to appeal your tax assessment and get a hearing appointment.

Along with the notice of reassessment, there should be info on how to file an appeal. If you don't have it, call your county assessor's office.

The fact that they built new schools and that your children are out of school has nothing to do with your assessment. The new schools might affect the tax rate that's applied to your assessment.
